THE NEEDS OF GİFTED AND TALENTED STUDENT FAMILIES ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN

In our country, scientific studies are very limited in determining the needs of families with gifted and talented children in the process of raising their children and carrying out studies to meet these needs.The aim of this study is to determine the needs of gifted and talented student families in the process of raising their children by determining the current situation regarding their development. In this study, one of the qualitative research designs, holistic single case design was used. In the 2017-2018 academic year, the study group completed the adaptation training at two Science and Art Centers in the South Marmara Region; support education consists of the families of 40 gifted and talented students determined according to purposive sampling method, continuing the individual talent recognition and special talent development programs. In this study where qualitative research method was used, the data were obtained by semi-structured and non-directive interview technique by the researcher. NVivo 8 qualitative data analysis program was used in the modeling of the research data. It has been determined that families with gifted and talented children need counseling services in order to increase their potential for the development of their children and contribute to their growth as a healthy individual. like every parent, they expect their children to live as a happy individual. In the light of the findings of the research, development of family education models for parents, preparation of educational books, materials and educational kits to inform families were presented as suggestions.
