INVESTIGATION OF LITERARY PRODUCT DESIGN EXPERIENCE CAN BE USED IN SOCIAL STUDIES COURSE OF PRE-SERVİCE SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS


The contribution of the use of literary products in the teaching of social studies is undeniable. The aim of the study is to examine the pre-service teachers' experiences in preparing literary products that can be used in social studies course. Qualitative model was used in the study in order to examine the experiences and views of the prospective teachers of social studies. The study group of the study was formed by 33 social studies teacher candidates studying in 3rd grade in a state university in Central Anatolia Region. The distribution of teacher candidates according to gender consists of 12 boys and 21 girls. The research was based on volunteering of the participants. 7 semi-structured interview questions and document analysis were used to collect the data of the study. The interview questions were applied to the participants in the form of a focus group interview. Category and codes were prepared by the researcher for 7 semi-structured interview questions used in the research. Content analysis was performed and NVivo computer program was used for data analysis. Expert opinion was obtained for the validity and reliability of the study. The categories created by the researcher and the expert were compared. The research was carried out by the researcher in social studies oral and written literature studies course. As a result of the research, social studies teacher candidates preferred the most poetic and travel writing genres in total 10 different literary genres in preparing literary product. At the same time, it is seen that they make gain-weighted associations in the social studies curriculum. Opportunities can be created for prospective social studies teachers to put their theoretical knowledge into practice during their undergraduate education.
