Osmanlı Devleti’nin son dönemlerinde İstanbul’da inşa edilmeye başlanan apartmanlar Cumhuriyet sonrasında da devam ederek kentsel değişimin ve gelişimin en önemli ögesi haline gelir. İstanbul sınırları içerisinde ilk örnekleri Galata ve Pera’da görülen apartmanlar 20. yüzyılın başlarından itibaren Taksim, Ayazpaşa, Nişantaşı ve Teşvikiye gibi çeşitli bölgelerde de inşa edilmiştir.  Her dönemin kendine özgü estetik beğenisini içinde barındıran bu yapılarda karşımıza çıkan sanat türlerinden biri ise duvar resimleridir. Duvar resimleri ile ilgili çalışmalar genellikle saray, köşk ve cami gibi belli yapı grupları üzerinedir ve bu yapılar çoğunlukla Osmanlı dönemine aittir. Apartmanlardaki duvar resimleri üzerine çalışmalar ise oldukça sınırlıdır. Ayrıca Cumhuriyet döneminde yapılmış duvar resimleri üzerine çalışmalar ise yok denecek kadar azdır.Bu çalışmada Cumhuriyet dönemine ait duvar resimlerini içinde barındıran Şişli’deki Zümrüt Palas Apartmanı incelenecektir. Yapıdaki duvar resimlerin konuları ve üslupları detaylı bir şekilde ele alınacak ve dönemin sanat anlayışı içindeki yeri tespit edilecektir. Resimlerin en önemli hususlardan biri ise eserlerin Hamit Görele tarafından yapılmasıdır. Sanatçı, 1924’de Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi’ne girer ve İbrahim Çallı’nın atölyesinde eğitim görmüştür. Görele, 1928’de Avrupa Resim Yarışması’nda aldığı derece sonrası devlet tarafından Fransa’ya eğitim için gönderilmiştir. Fransa’da Akademie Moderne ve Andre Lhote Atölyesi’nde çalışmalar yapmıştır.  Makalede sanatçının hayatı ve yapıdaki duvar resimleri üzerine etkileri detaylı bir şekilde irdelenecektir.

The apartments built in Istanbul in the last period of the Ottoman Empire continued after the proclamation of the Republic and became the most important element of urban change and development. Apartments, the first examples of which were seen in Galata and Pera within the borders of İstanbul, were also built in various regions such as Taksim, Ayazpaşa, Nişantaşı and Teşvikiye since the beginning of the 20th century. One of the art types in these buildings, which contain the unique aesthetic taste of their period, is wall paintings. Studies on wall paintings are generally on certain buildings such as palaces, mansions and mosques and they mostly belong to the Ottoman period. Studies on wall paintings in apartments are very limited. Moreover, studies on wall paintings made in the Republican period are next to none. In this study, Zümrüt Palas Apartment in Şişli (İstanbul) which contains wall paintings from the Republican period will be examined. The subjects and styles of the wall paintings will be discussed in detail and its place in the artistic understanding of the period will be determined. One of the aspects that makes these wall paintings important is that they were made by Hamit Görele. The artist entered the Academy of Fine Arts in 1924 and studied at İbrahim Çallı's workshop. . Görele was sent to France for education by the state after receiving his degree in the European Painting Competition in 1928. He worked at Akademie Moderne and Andre Lhote Atelier in France. In the article, the artist’s life and its effects on the wall paintings in the building will be examined in detail.
