İnsanlık tarihi boyunca toplumsal değişmeler sosyal yaşamı derinden etkilemiştir. Bir süreç olarak modernleşme de bireysel ve toplumsal hayatta bir dizi değişimler zinciri oluşturmuştur. Bu değişimler beraberinde öngörülemeyen sorunlarda doğurmuştur. Modernleşme düşüncesinin sorunları günümüz toplumlarında daha fazla hissedilmeye başlanmıştır. Birçok düşünür modernleşmenin sonuna geldiğimizi ve yeni bir evreye girdiğimizi söylemektedir. Sosyal bilimciler kendi alanlarında bu yeni evrenin toplumsal yapılarda ne tür değişikliklere neden olabileceği üzerine düşünmektedir. Bunu yaparlarken modernleşme düşüncesini yapı sökümüne uğratmakta, dün göremedikleri şeyleri bugün yeniden fark etmektedirler. Fransız entelektüelleri arasında kendine anlamlı bir yer edinmiş olan Touraine farklı bir modernlik çözümlemesi yapmıştır. Aklın diktatörlüğü ve öznenin totaliter sapmalarından akıl ile özne diyaloğu ile yeni bir toplumsallık öneren Touraine, öznenin post modernlik içerisinde de yok olup gitmemesi gerektiğini söylemektedir. Modernleşmeyi akılcı, bilimsel, teknolojik ve idari etkinliğin toplumsal yaşamın çeşitli bölümlerinde etkinliğinin artması olarak tanımlamıştır. Bu bağlamda yapılan literatür taramasında Touraine’nin Türk düşünce dünyasında yeterince tartışılmadığı, onun modernleşme üzerine yapmış olduğu farklı değerlendirmelerin fazlaca ilgi görmediği görülmüştür. Onun özne-birey, toplumsal/bireysel eyleyen, araçsallık ve akılcılık üzerine yaptığı değerlendirmelerin felsefi yönünün yüksek olduğu dolayısıyla onu okumak ve anlamak için biraz daha fazla çaba harcanması gerektiği görülmüştür. Araştırmada Touraine’nin modernleşmenin modernist bir düşünürü olarak modernleşmeye yönelttiği ana varsayımlar değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada özellikle modernleşme sonrası dönemlere de ışık tutacağını düşündüğümüz varsayımlar da analiz edilmiştir.

Throughout human history, social changes have deeply affected social life. As a process, modernization has created a series of changes in individual and social life. These changes have brought with them unforeseen problems. The problems of the idea of modernization have begun to be felt more in today's societies. Many thinkers say that we have come to the end of modernization and entered a new phase. Social scientists are thinking about what kind of changes this new phase might cause in social structures in their fields. While doing this, they deconstruct the idea of modernization, and they realize today what they could not see yesterday. Touraine, who had a significant place among French intellectuals, made a different analysis of modernity. Touraine, who proposes a new sociality with the dialogue between the mind and the subject, from the dictatorship of the mind and the totalitarian deviations of the subject, says that the subject should not disappear in post-modernity. He defined modernization as the increase in the effectiveness of rational, scientific, technological and administrative activity in various parts of social life. In the literature review conducted in this context, it was seen that Touraine was not sufficiently discussed in the world of Turkish thought, and his different evaluations on modernization did not attract much attention. It has been seen that the philosophical aspects of his evaluations on subject-individual, social/individual actor, instrumentality and rationality are high, so a little more effort should be made to read and understand him. In the study, the main assumptions made by Touraine as a modernist thinker of modernization were evaluated. In the study, the assumptions that we think will shed light on the post-modernization periods are also analyzed.
