Çağımızın en önemli sorunu olarak görülen yoksulluğa karşı ilgi dün olduğu gibi bugünde oldukça fazladır. Kitle iletişim araçlarının gelişimiyle birlikte dünyadaki yoksulluk daha görünür bir hal almıştır. Böyle olunca hem akademik dünya hem sivil toplum örgütleri hem yöneticiler hem de toplumun büyük bir kesimi yoksulluk sorununa ilgi duymaya başlamıştır. Sorunun bu denli büyük oluşu doğal olarak mücadele arayışını da beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacını yoksullukla mücadelenin işlevleriyle birlikte düşünülmesi oluşturmaktadır. Genel olarak yoksulluk çalışmaları incelendiğinde yoksulluğun işlevlerine yeterince yer verilmediği görülecektir. Yoksulluk toplumsal yapı için türlü nedenlerden dolayı işlevsel olduğu için uygulanan mücadele yöntemleri onu ortadan kaldırmaktan ziyade toplumsal yapıda varlığını devam ettirmesini sağlamaktadır. Yoksullukla mücadele edilirken yoksulluğun işlevlerini de çevrelen yeni bir yaklaşım çerçevesinde stratejiler belirlenmelidir.
The worry about poverty, which is seen as the most important problem of our age, is quite high today. With the development of mass media, poverty in the world has become more visible. As a result, both the academic world and civil society organizations, administrators and a large part of the society started to be concerned with the problem of poverty. The problem is so great that the struggle has naturally brought the solution with it. The aim of this study is to think about the fight against poverty together with its functions. When the poverty studies are examined in general, it is seen that the functions of poverty are not sufficiently covered by them. Since poverty has functions in the social structure in many aspects, the applied methods of the struggle rather than eradicating the poverty enable it to remain in the social structure. Strategies should be defined in the framework of a new approach that is also surrounded by poverty while combating poverty.
