Bir toplumda depremin kavranması, anlaşılması, depreme ilişkin doğru kavramların kullanılmasını gerektirmektedir. Doğru kavramlar, gerçeği bütüncül biçimde verebilen yerbilimsel kavramlardır. Bunlarda, kullanılan dil ile yakından ilgilidir. Türkçe konuşurlarına, başka bir dilin kavramları ile deprem bilgisi vermek, dahası kimi bilgileri yanlış, yanılgılar içeren bağlamlarda sunmak, olgunun anlaşılmasını önlemektedir. Kısaca, depremi, depremi yaşayan, kaçınılmaz olarak yaşayacak olan toplumun dile ile o dilin bilimcileri ve dilbilimcilerinin ürettiği bilimsel kavramlarla açıklamak en geçerli yöntemdir. Dünya ve insanla ilgili birçok alanda olduğu gibi, yersarsıntısı(deprem) alanında da bilgi ve bilinç gelişimi mitoloji, din ve bilim sürecini izlemiştir. Yersarsıntısı, süreçleri ve sonuçları nedeniyle genellikle olumsuz bir olgu olarak yorumlanmıştır. Etkilediği alanlar nedeniyle de, ekonomik, politik, dinsel, yersel, yerbilimsel ve deprembilimsel (sismoloji) açıklamalar, yorumlar yapılagelmiştir. Oysa, yerbilimsel (jeolojik, jeofiziksel) bulgular göstermektedir ki; yersarsıntısı gerçekte, yerküre ve canlı dünyası için olumlu bir yer devinimidir. Devinim, yersel canlılığın, yaşam alanlarının yeniden üretimidir denebilir. Diğer bir deyişle, yer devinimleri (depremler) olmazsa, yerküre ölü bir gezegene dönüşebilir. Deprem yerküreyi yaşanabilir kılmaktadır. Diğer yandan, yersarsıntısı, yerin olağan, doğal, önlenemez ve sürekli bir devinimdir. Bu sürekli ve doğal devinim, bütüncül biçimde kavranır, tanınır, anlaşılırsa neden olduğu olumsuz sonuçlar önlenebilir, olumlu sonuçlarından ise büyük ölçüde yararlanabilir. Bir toplumda depremin kavranması, anlaşılması, depreme ilişkin doğru kavramların kullanılmasını gerektirmektedir. Belirtilen gerekçelerle, çalışmada, deprem olgusunun bilimsel gerçekliği, yerbilim ve yerbilim fiziği yaklaşımıyla ve kavramların Türkçe ad ve anlamlarıyla sunulmaya çalışıldı ve sonuçlarından zarar görmemek için, konut, yapı, yerleşim konularında öneriler sunuldu.

They are closely related to the language used. To speak Turkish, to give earthquake information with other language concepts, and even to present some information in wrong and misleading contexts, prevents the understanding of the phenomenon. This continuous and natural motion is totally comprehended, recognized, if understood, adverse consequences can be avoided and beneficial from its positive results. In a society, depreciative comprehension requires the use of correct concepts of depression and comprehension. For reasons mentioned above, scientific truth of earthquake occurrence, earth science and earth science philosophy and concept of Turkish names and meanings were tried to be presented and suggestions were given in housing, building and settlement issues in order to avoid damage
