Reşat Nuri Güntekin, Miskinler Tekkesi romanında toplumsal bir gerçeklik olan dilencilik izleğini farklı bir bakış açısıyla ele almıştır. Kahraman anlatıcıyla ve hatıra tarzında kaleme alınan eser okuyucuya bir dilencinin yaşamı algılayışını, nasıl dilendiğini, ne şartlar sonucunda dilenmek zorunda kaldığını aktarmaya çalışır. Yazar, zavallı ve çaresiz bir konumdayken isteği dışında kendisine verilen ilk sadakadan sonra dilenme işini bir alışkanlık haline getirerek dilenciliği kendisine meslek edinir. Zamanla kahramanımız dilencilik sanatını öğrenmeye başlayacak, sükûtun, sessizliğin dilencilikte en büyük silah olduğunu, boynunda redingotuyla emekli ve zavallı duruma düşmesine rağmen sükûnetini koruyan bir ihtiyarın müthiş cazibesini fark edecektir. Bu bir nevi “soyaçekim”dir. Padişah dilencisi bir dedenin torunu olan roman kahramanı istemeden de olsa, şartların zorlamasıyla da olsa dilencilik yapmaya başlamıştır. Ve bu işi genlerinden gelen bir güçle profesyonel bir şekilde yapmaktadır. Bu çalışma Miskinler Tekkesi romanında Reşat Nuri Güntekin’in okuyucuya sunduğu dilencilik algısını ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Dilenciliğin ne olduğu, neler gerektirdiği, üstünlükleri ve eksiklikleri çalışmamızda tespit edilmeye çalışılacaktır. Çalışmada miskinlik izleksel olarak ele alınacaktır. Yine çalışmamızda Reşat Nuri Güntekin’in işaret ettiği modern dilencilik üzerinde durulacaktır. Mal, makam ve mevki için insanların önünde eğilip bükülen, kişiliğinden ödün veren veya adeta bir kişiliği olmayan, kişiliği karşısındakinin makam ve mevkisine göre değişkenlik gösteren modern dilenciler üzerinde de durulmaya çalışılacaktır.

In this novel called Miskinler Tekkesi (meaning, The Den of the Wretched), Reşat Nuri Güntekin holds a distinctive approach to the theme of panhandling. Through a heroic narration and with a diary-style portrayal, the novel revolves around the interesting life of a beggar along with his perspective into the life, how he carries out his job, and the conditions that have made him into this work. The beggar becomes habituated to begging upon the unintentional handout he receives during his pitiful and desperate situation, and takes up this career thereafter. Over time, he hones his panhandling skills, also realising that silence and placidity are the greatest weapons in this career and that his appearance of a retired senior citizen dressed in a frock coat and keeping silent despite characterizing a pitiable person disseminates an outstanding charm. The writer states that this situation has a hereditary reason. His grandfather once worked as the beggar of the then Padishah (former Turkish Sultan), and thus he feels somehow compelled into this job. Accordingly, he tries his best to perform his job professionally through the vigour emerging from his genes. This study is aimed to analyse the theme of panhandling that is conveyed to the readers in the novel called Miskinler Tekkesi by Reşat Nuri Güntekin. Through this study, the analysis will focus on what panhandling means along with its requirements, benefits, and drawbacks. The theme of panhandling will be examined with special references to its topic-based features. Additionally, special attention will be paid to what is called ‘modern panhandling’ by Reşat Nuri Güntekin. By that he refers to the attitudes exerted by the people who genuflect to other people in order to gain financial profit or promotion, and also the ones who renounce their personalities or even those who do not have a decent character or has a personality which is strictly dependent on the person’s position and rank.
