Öncelikle yazar için okunmaya değer kurmaca bir metin inşa etmenin sonrasında ise okur için bu türevden metinleri okumanın muazzam bir imgesel inşa uğraşı gerektirdiğini söyleyen Elaine Scarry; zihnimizde resimler yaratma biçimlerinin kaydını tuttuğu “Kitapla Hayal Etmek” adlı çalışmasında, yazınsal metinlerin okurun “zihinsel retina”sında canlanabilmesinin yolunun, sinematografik gerçekliğe fotokopi sadakati ile tutunmaktan geçtiğini, uzun, derin ve ayrıntılı bilgi ve örnekler üzerinden açıklar. İngiliz edebiyatı profesörü olan yazarı böyle bir kitabı yazmaya iten temel kaygı ise, özü hayal gücümüze yaslanan kitapla bağları gittikçe zayıflayan hatta kopan; bilgisayar, sinema ve tiyatro gibi görselliğe dayalı araçlar ve sanatlar üzerinden yaşamını biçimlendiren insanların gittikçe hayal etme / imgelem yeteneklerini kaybedecekleri öngörüsüdür. Gerçek hayattan yahut sinema ve tiyatro türü örneklerden ödünçlenerek kurmaca dünyaya eklemlenmeye çalışan canlılık, destan çağından bugüne, şiirden romana hemen her edebi türün hem varlık nedeni hem var olma biçimidir. Makalemiz edebiyat incelemelerine yeni bir soluk ve bakış açısı getirecek ve bu türden çalışmalarda örneksendiğini nerdeyse hiç görmediğimiz bu kitabın teklif ve telkinlerinin, İhsan Oktay Anar’ın Suskunlar romanına uygulanması ile ortaya çıkan bir denemedir. Bu deneme, yazınsal düzlemde kitabın tanıtımını yaparken aynı zamanda, içerikle, edebi eserdeki görüntü seviyelerini de eşleştirmektedir.

The main concern propelling the writer who is also the professor of English literature to write such a book is the prediction that the bonds between people and books whose essence is based on our imagination have weakened and even ruptured; people who shape their life through means and arts based on visuality such as computer, cinema and theatre will lose their skill of imagination / phantasy. This book which is not commonly known or used for literature researches in country analyzes issues, imagination elements under titles such as Making Pictures, On Vivacity, On Solidity, The Place of Instruction, Imagining Flowers, Radiant Ignition, Rarity, Addition and Subtraction, Stretching, Folding and Tilting, Floral Supposition, Circling Back, Skating, Quickening with Flowers etc. Vivacity which is tried to be joined to fictional world through borrowing from real life or genres such as cinema and theatre is the reason or way of existence of every literary genre from poetry to novel since the epic ages up to now. Our essay will bring a breath of fresh air and perspective to literature researches since it is a study in which suggestions and inspirations of this book which has not been used in such kind of studies are applied on the novel “Suskunlar” written by İhsan Oktay Anar. This study gives a demonstration of book on literary basis while on the other hand compares content with image levels in literary work.
