Tanpınar, edebî incelemelerinde farklı metotları kullanarak yepyeni bir edebiyat tarihçiliği geliştirmiştir. Özellikle XIX. Asır Türk Edebiyatı Tarihi’ni okuduğumuzda, bir sanat eserindeki sıcak ve estetik havayı buluruz. Bu özelliği ile Tanpınar, edebiyatımıza ilk kez bilimsel değeri yanında sanat ve estetik değeri üstün bir edebiyat tarihi kazandırmıştır. O, olaylara bir tenkitçi gözüyle değil bir sanatçı gözüyle bakmıştır. Tanpınar, hem bir şair hem de bir sanatkârdır. O, bazen uzun tahlillerden sonra kısa, fakat bütün bir manzarayı aydınlatan cümleler kurmuştur. Tanpınar’da renkli ve pırıltılı bir deyiş vardır. O, her şeyden evvel bir estettir ve bu nedenle tahlillerinde ve etütlerinde pitoreske önem vermiştir.
Tanpınar developed a new historiography of literature, adding different methods to his literary resaurchs. We find hot and aesthetical style when read the History of Turkish Litertature of XIX. Century which exceeding the six hundred pages. With this speciality Tanpınar it’s the first time brought in history of litertature which have both scientific and artistic value to our literature. He look the events to be an artificer not as a critic. Tanpınar both a poet and artificer. He set up sentences short but enlighten the all situation after long critiques. Tanpınar have both attractive and sheeny way of speaking. He is an aesthete before all else and for this reason he care to the picturesque at critics and etudes.
