Türk edebiyatında kitap yazımına ebced hesabına göre tarih düşürme geleneği XIII. yüzyıldan itibaren görülen bir özelliktir. Matbaanın kullanılmaya başlamasından sonra da kitap basımına tarih düşürüldüğü görülmektedir. Kitap yazımı için düşürülen tarihler içinde en erken yazılanı 630/1232; en son yazılanı ise 1421/1991 tarihini göstermektedir. Tespit edilenler dışında başka tarihlerin çıkması da mümkün olabilir. Mevcut örneklerin çokluğuna bakarak kitap yazımına tarih düşürme geleneğinin yedi yüzyıldan fazla sürdüğünü, çok eski bir geçmişi olduğu ve bir gelenek halinde uzun süre etkili olduğu söylenebilir. Tespit edilen tarih örneklerini türlerine göre incelediğimiz zaman bütün türlerde örnek bulunduğunu görmekteyiz. Bu özellik, kitap yazımına tarih düşürmenin yaygın olduğunu gösteren bir işarettir. Tarih türlerinin dağılımına baktığımızda manen tarihler (alt bölümleriyle) 94, lafzen tarihler 35, lafzen ve manen tarihler 1, karışık tarihler 1, muamma tarihler 2, bilmeceli tarihler 4 tanedir. Bu haliyle kitapların bitiş tarihlerini sabitleme amacıyla tarih düşürme, ince bir zevkin ve estetik anlayışının ürünüdür.
The tradition of composing chronograms on book writing via the ebced in the Turkish literature has been seen since the XIII. century. It is also seen that chronograms are composed on book printing after the pres has been started to be used. Among the chronograms on book writing; the earliest is 630/1232; the latest 1421/1991. There may well be others other than those identified. Taking into consideration the abundance of the present examplars it can be said that the tradition of composing chronograms on book writing has continued over seven centuries and that it has an ancient past and it has been effective for a long time as a tradition. We see that there are exemplars from all the kinds when we examine the identified chronogram examplars in relation to their kind. This feature is a sign that shows that composing chronograms on book writing is a common practice.
