Bu çalışma, konuşma eylemlerindeki sosyal mesafe değişkenleriyle ilgili literatürü incelemeyi ve bunların altında yatan stratejilere ve veri toplama araçlarına odaklanarak genel bir inceleme sunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, 1993 ile 2025 yılları arasında yayınlanmış ve Web of Science kapsamında belgelenmiş makaleleri sunmak ve tartışmak için anlatısal bir literatür incelemesi kullanmaktadır. Makaleler, yayın yılına bakılmaksızın "sosyal mesafe" ve "konuşma eylemleri" anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak aranmış ve çalışmada belirtilen kriterlere göre bir kısmı hariç tutulmuştur. Arama kriterine uygun 42 makale bulunmuştur. Ancak, bazı makaleler hariç tutulmuş çünkü sosyal mesafe değişkenleriyle ilgili 42 makaleden 23'ünün anlatı analizi için uygun olduğu görülmüştür. İncelenen makalelerin bulguları, sosyal mesafenin belirli konuşma eylemlerinde kullanılan stratejileri önemli ölçüde etkileyebileceğini, ancak stratejileri ve konuşma eylemlerinin gerçekleştirilmesini tek başına belirlemediğini göstermektedir. Ayrıca, pratik olmaları ve sosyal değişkenleri kontrol edip manipüle etmelerinin kolay olması nedeniyle, çalışmaların çoğunluğunun konuşma eylemleriyle ilgili büyük miktarda veri toplamak için bir söylem tamamlama görevi (DCT) veya rol yapma oyunları içerdiği görülmüştür. Konuşma edimleri ve sosyal mesafe değişkenlerine genel bir bakış sunan bu çalışma, mikro-sosyal faktörler aracılığıyla varyasyonel pragmatiği anlamayı amaçlayan araştırmacılar ve okuyucular için bütünsel bir bakış açısı sağlayabilir ve uygulamalı dilbilim alanında bağlamsal ve kültürel uygunluğa sahip konuşma edimleri uygulamaları açısından dil öğretimi öğretmenleri ve uygulayıcılarına rehberlik edebilir.

The present study aims to review the literature relevant to the social distance variables in speech acts and present an overall review by focusing on their underlying strategies and data collection tools. The study employs a narrative literature review to present and discuss the papers which have been published from 1993 to 2025 and documented under the Web of Science. The papers are found through the search of keywords “social distance” and “speech acts” with no regard to the publication year, and a number of them are excluded according to the criteria specified in the study. 42 articles are found in line with the searching criterion. However, a number of papers are excluded, and 23 out of 42 articles, relevant to the social distance variables, are found eligible for narrative analysis. The findings of the reviewed papers show that social distance can considerably affect the strategies employed in certain speech acts although it does not solely determine the strategies and the realization of speech acts. It has been also seen that the majority of the studies include a discourse completion task (DCT) or role-plays to collect a large amount of data related to the speech acts due to their practicality and being easy to control and manipulate social variables. Having also presented an overall view of speech acts and social distance variables, this study may provide a holistic view for researchers and readers who aim to understand variational pragmatics through micro-social factors, and guide teachers and practitioners of language teaching in terms of speech acts practices with contextual and cultural appropriateness in the field of applied linguistics.
