Öz: Bu çalışma, müzik, doğa ve insan arasındaki çok katmanlı ilişkiyi ekolojik, estetik, etik ve psikolojik boyutlarıyla ele alan disiplinlerarası bir alan olan ekomüzikolojinin kapsamını ortaya koymaktadır. Ambient ve New Age müzik türleri bu çerçevede; bioakustik, akustik ekoloji ve çevresel psikoakustik kuramlar ışığında analiz edilmektedir. Ekomüzikoloji, çevresel krizler çağında sanat ile ekoloji arasındaki ilişkiyi yeniden düşünme ihtiyacından doğmuş; özellikle doğa seslerinin müziksel temsili, kültürel anlamları ve işitsel farkındalık yaratma potansiyeli üzerinde yoğunlaşan bir araştırma alanıdır. Bu bağlamda çalışma, Schafer’in ses peyzajı (soundscape) kuramı ile başlayan akustik ekoloji hareketinden, 21. yüzyıldaki çevresel müzikoloji ve eko-empati yaklaşımlarına uzanan kuramsal gelişimi irdelemektedir. Kuş ötüşü, su şırıltısı, rüzgâr uğultusu gibi çevresel ses örneklemeleri, Ambient ve New Age müzikte yalnızca atmosfer yaratımıyla sınırlı kalmayıp; dikkat restorasyonu, psikolojik rahatlama ve çevresel empati gibi çok boyutlu etkiler yaratmaktadır. Nitel yönteme dayalı bu çalışmada, ekomüzikoloji literatüründeki temel ve çağdaş metinler sistematik olarak taranmış, disiplinin tarihsel temelleri, estetik yönelimleri ve etik boyutları çok yönlü biçimde analiz edilmiştir. Spotify ve YouTube gibi dijital platformlarda bu türlerin geniş dinleyici kitlelerine ulaşması, doğayla kurulan işitsel ilişkinin bireysel ve kolektif düzeyde dönüşmekte olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışma, ekomüzikolojinin teorik zemini ile günümüz dinleme pratiklerini bütüncül bir bakış açısıyla birleştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır.

Abstract: This study explores the interdisciplinary scope of ecomusicology, a field that examines the complex interrelations between music, nature, and humans through ecological, aesthetic, ethical, and psychological lenses. Grounded in the theoretical foundations of acoustic ecology, bioacoustics, and environmental psychoacoustics, the research focuses on the ambient and New Age genres as key sites where ecological awareness and sonic aesthetics converge. Emerging from a need to re-evaluate the relationship between ecology and the arts amidst global environmental crises, ecomusicology interrogates how natural soundscapes are represented and culturally encoded within musical forms. By tracing the field from R. Murray Schafer’s soundscape theory to contemporary approaches in environmental musicology, the study analyzes how birdsong, flowing water, and wind common sonic elements in ambient and New Age compositions function not merely as background atmosphere but as carriers of eco-empathy, attentional restoration, and environmental consciousness. Through a qualitative review of core and contemporary literature, the research constructs a multilayered analysis of ecomusicology’s historical development, conceptual framework, and aesthetic directions. Finally, the widespread popularity of these musical forms on platforms like Spotify and YouTube reveals a shifting paradigm in auditory engagement, wherein individual and collective relationships with nature are increasingly mediated through sonic experience.
