Tarihten günümüze şiddet her toplumda sosyal hareketlerin ve psikolojik ifadelerin bir uzantısı olarak kendine özgü yöntemleriyle sıklıkla sergilenen bir davranış biçimidir.  Şiddet bir yandan çok sayıda bilim dalının diğer yandan sanatın konusu olurken, çeşitli referans noktalarıyla ifade ve çerçeveleme inşa etmektedir. Şiddetin sorunlaşıp sanatın problemleri arasına girmesi ise şiddetin topolojik dönüşümüyle paralel ilerleyen çağdaş sanatta, beden üzerindeki tezahürlerinde görülmüştür. Çağdaş sanat, şiddetin insan yaşamına yönelik tehdit halini sorgulama görevini sürdürürken, bunu hem insan hem de hayvan bedeni üzerindeki ikametiyle fiziksel olduğu kadar sembolik ve kavramsal düzeyde incelemektedir. Canlısı ve ölüsüyle insan-hayvan bedeni sınırları, kırılganlığı ve direnç kapasitesiyle sanat nesnesi olarak kullanılmış; şiddetin ve zulmün merkezine yerleştirilmiştir. Bedene yönelik şiddet ve acının temsil edildiği müstakil eserler, toplumun dikkatini şiddet kavramına ve yarattığı tehlikelere odaklaması açısından yarar sağlayabilir. Lakin bu sanatsal pratiklerin tam da kendisi ya yaklaşımı ya da icrası ve koşulları gereği şiddet yanlısı bir yerde konumlanabilirken etik ihlalleri sorgulamayı gerekli kılmaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışma insan ve hayvan bedenine yönelik şiddet odaklı sanatın kafalarda oluşturduğu sorulara, ortaya koyduğu çelişki ve açmazlara çağdaş sanat ekseninden bakmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, şiddetin topolojisi ile beraber çağdaş sanatta şiddet uyarlamalarını ele almakta, insan ve hayvan bedenine uygulanan acının ve şiddetin ifade pratiklerini değerlendirmekte, kavramsal bağlamların beden üzerinden ifade edilme şekillerini örnek sanatçı işleri üzerinden değerlendirmekte ve anlamsal çözümlemelerini analiz etmektedir.

Throughout history, violence has been a frequently exhibited behavioral pattern in every society, manifesting through its unique methods as an extension of social movements and psychological expressions. While violence has been a subject of numerous academic disciplines on the one hand and of artistic exploration on the other, it constructs frameworks and modes of expression through various reference points. The problematization of violence and its incorporation into the realm of artistic concerns have been observed in its manifestations on the body within contemporary art, paralleling the topological transformation of violence itself. Contemporary art persists in interrogating the existential threat that violence poses to human life. It does so by examining violence not only in physical terms but also in symbolic and conceptual dimensions, as illustrated by its presence on both human and animal bodies. The boundaries of the human-animal body-both living and deceased-its fragility, and its capacity for resistance have been utilized as artistic objects, positioned at the center of violence and oppression. Independent artworks that represent bodily violence and suffering can serve to direct society’s attention to the concept of violence and the dangers it engenders. However, these artistic practices, by their very approach, execution, or conditions, may inherently align with violence, necessitating an ethical inquiry into their implications. Within this framework, the present study aims to examine the questions, contradictions, and dilemmas that violence-focused art centered on the human and animal body evokes, through the lens of contemporary art. It explores the topological dynamics of violence and its adaptations in contemporary art, assesses the representational practices of pain and violence inflicted on human and animal bodies, and evaluates how conceptual contexts are articulated through the body by analyzing selected works of artists.
