Bilimsel çalışmalardaki özetler, okurlar için çalışma hakkında betimleyici alanlardır. Çalışmaların iskelet yapısını oluşturan özet kısmı okurlara çalışma hakkında genel yargıya ulaşma fırsatı sunmaktadır. Bu nedenle araştırmacıların, çalışmalarının özet kısmında çalışma ile ilgili genel yargıların oluşmasını sağlayan unsurları dikkate alması ve bu unsurları titizlikle açıklaması gerekmektedir. Yapılan literatür taramasında birçok çalışmanın özet kısımlarında, çalışmanın yapı taşını oluşturan unsurlara tam olarak değinilmediği görülmüştür. Bu sorun ile ele alınan çalışmamızın amacı araştırmacıların hazırlamış olduğu makalelerde yer alan özetlerde daha çok hangi unsurlara değinmediğini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışma kapsamında TR Dizinde taranan 10 iletişim dergisinden her biri eşit sayıda olacak şekilde tesadüfi örneklemeyle seçilen 100 makale içerik analizi yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Değerlendirmede makalelerde sorun, önem, amaç, kapsam, yöntem, veri toplama, veri analizi, bulgu ve sonuç bilgilerine yer verilip verilmediği analiz edilmiştir. İçerik analizi ile elde edilen veriler tablolaştırılarak frekans ve yüzde değerlerine yer verilmiştir. Çalışmada, makale özetlerinde çalışmanın sorununa yarıdan fazla makalenin yer vermediği,  makale özetlerinin ciddi bir oranında çalışmanın önemine değinilmediği, makalelerin yarısından fazlasında araştırma kapsamının belirtilmediği ve makalelerin yarısından fazlasının veri analizleri bilgisine değinmediği ancak makalelerin büyük bir çoğunluğunda araştırmanın yöntemine değinildiği, makalelerin yarıdan fazlasının veri toplama araçlarından bahsettiği, çoğu makalede amaç bilgisinin yer aldığı, makalelerin yarısından fazlasının araştırmanın bulgularına yer verdiği ve makalelerin büyük çoğunluğunun araştırmanın sonuçlarından bahsettiği bulgularına ulaşılmıştır. Bulgular değerlendirildiğinde; genel anlamda makalelerde araştırmanın sorununa, önemine, kapsamına ve veri analizlerine değinilmediği sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır. Çalışma makalelerin özetlerinde değinilmeyen unsurlara dikkat çekmesi açısından önemlidir.

Abstracts in scientific studies are descriptive areas for readers about the study. The abstract, which constitutes the skeletal structure of the studies, offers readers the opportunity to reach general judgments about the study. For this reason, researchers should consider the elements that enable the formation of general judgments about the study in the abstract part of their studies and explain these elements meticulously. In the literature review, it was observed that in the abstracts of many studies, the elements that constitute the building blocks of the study were not fully mentioned. The aim of our study, which is addressed with this problem, is to reveal which elements are mostly not mentioned in the abstracts of the articles prepared by the researchers. Within the scope of the study, 100 articles selected by random sampling from 10 communication journals indexed in the TR Index, each with an equal number of articles, were evaluated by content analysis method. In the evaluation, it was analyzed whether the articles included information on the problem, importance, purpose, scope, method, data collection, data analysis, findings and results. The data obtained through content analysis were tabulated and frequency and percentage values were given. In the study, it was found that more than half of the articles did not include the problem of the study in the article summaries, a significant proportion of the article summaries did not mention the importance of the study, more than half of the articles did not specify the scope of the research and more than half of the articles did not mention the data analysis information, but the majority of the articles mentioned the method of the research, more than half of the articles mentioned the data collection tools, most of the articles included the purpose information, more than half of the articles included the findings of the research and the majority of the articles mentioned the results of the research. When the findings were evaluated, it was concluded that the problem, importance, scope and data analysis of the research were not mentioned in the articles in general. The study is important in terms of drawing attention to the elements that are not mentioned in the abstracts of the articles.
