İdeolojik bir araç olan sinema, dönemin siyasal ve sosyal yapısından etkilenerek anlatı yapısını oluşturmaktadır. Türk sineması ilk günden itibaren dönemin hâkim ideolojinden ve toplumsal ikliminden doğrudan etkilenerek film üretiminin yapıldığı bir ülke sinemasıdır. Bu çalışmada; 1970’li yıllarda ulusal ve uluslararası camiada istikrarsızlık yaşayan Türkiye’nin kostüme avantür film serisi olan Tarkan filmleri aracılığı ile milliyetçiliği ve Türk milli kimliğini nasıl ön plana çıkardığı ortaya konulmuştur. Milliyetçilik ve milli kimlik söylemlerinin filmler içinde üretimi sırasında dönemin sinema anlatısından beslendiği, yoğun şekilde erotizme başvurulduğu tespit edilmiştir. Milliyetçi söylemin ne şekilde üretildiğini ve erotizm ile cinselliğin seri içinde destekleyici bir öğe olarak kullanıldığını Tarkan film serisindeki filmlerin söylem analizi ve içerik analizi ile ortaya çıkartılmıştır. Film analizleri ile serideki milliyetçi söylem Türk ırkını övücü diyaloglara yer verilmesi, Türk kültürüne ait görsel ve sözsel kodların yoğun şekilde kullanılması ve farklı ırka ait olan düşmanın gerek söylem gerekse ve görsel temsiller ile ötekileştirilmesi yoluyla verildiği tespit edilmiştir. Milliyetçi söylem inşasında dönemin seyirci alışkanlıkları paralelinde erotizmin yoğun şekilde kullandığı gözlemlenmiştir. Seriye ait 5 filmde de erotizm temsili kadın bedeni üzerinden verilmiştir. Özellikle düşman ırklara ait femme fatale kadın karakterler aracılığı ile erotik temsil inşa edilmiştir. Filmlerde erotizm ve milliyetçiliğin kesiştiği nokta; Tarkan’ın savaştaki galibiyetleri yoluyla Türk ırkının yüceltilmesi ile birlikte düşman kadınlar üzerinde kazandığı “zaferler” yoluyla erilliğinin de bir o kadar yüceltilmesidir. Seri süresince Tarkan düşman öteki olan komutanı/ kralı kılıcı ile yenerken komutanın/ kralın kızı veya eşi ile birlikte olarak cinsel olarak da düşmanı fethetmektedir.

Cinema, an ideological tool, creates its narrative structure by being influenced by the political and social structure of the period. Turkish cinema is a country cinema where film production has been directly influenced by the dominant ideology and social climate of the period since the very beginning. This study reveals how Turkey, which experienced instability in the national and international communities in the 1970s, brought nationalism and Turkish national identity to the forefront through the Tarkan films, a costume adventure film series. It has been found that nationalism and national identity discourses were nourished by the cinema narrative of the period during the production of films, and eroticism was used intensively. How the nationalist discourse is produced and how eroticism and sexuality are used to support this discourse has been revealed through the narrative analysis and content analysis of the Tarkan film series. Through film analyses, it has been determined that the nationalist discourse in the series is conveyed through dialogues praising the Turkish race, the intensive use of visual and verbal codes belonging to Turkish culture, and the othering of the enemy belonging to a different race or country through both discourse and visual representations. It has been observed that eroticism was used intensively in the construction of nationalist discourse, in line with the audience habits of the period. In all 5 films of the series, eroticism was represented through the female body. Erotic representation was constructed through women, especially femme fatale characters belonging to the enemy race. The point where eroticism and nationalism intersect in the films is the glorification of the Turkish race through Tarkan’s battlefield victories as well as the masculinity of Tarkan, the leading character, through his “victories” over enemy women. Throughout the series, Tarkan defeats the enemy other, the commander/king, with his sword, and also conquers the enemy sexually by being with the commander/king's daughter or wife.
