Kapadokya Bölgesinde önemli yerleşimlerden biri olan Ürgüp ilçesi Cemil köyü Demir-Roma Çağlarından günümüze uzanan süreçte yapı izlerinin görüldüğü tarihi bir yerleşimdir. Bizans döneminden itibaren Hıristiyan köyü olan Cemil, Anadolu’ da Selçuklu hakimiyetinden 1924 nüfus mübadelesine kadar Rumların ve Türklerin birlikte yaşadığı bir köydür. Bu tarihten sonra Selanik’ten gelen mübadillerin de yerleştirildiği bir köy olarak geleneksel doku ve özelliklerini sürdürmüştür. Cemil köyü; özgün dokusu, farklı dönemlere ait maddi kalıntıları ile döneminin sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik ve fiziksel özelliklerini yansıtan nitelikli bir miras bölgesidir. Çalışmada köyün mevcut yerleşme özellikleri yazılı arşiv kaynakları ile ele alınmış, köyün farklı uygarlık dönemlerine ait fiziksel yapısının ortaya çıkarılması ve geleneksel yapılarının mimari özelliklerinin sunulması amaçlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda köye ait, birinci el kaynaklar olan, Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivi ve Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü verileri taranmış ve bu belgeler halihazır köy planı üzerine aktarılarak değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Aynı zamanda Harita Genel Müdürlüğüne ait 1976 tarihli hava fotoğrafı incelenmiş, nitelikli yapılara ait rölöve çizimleri hazırlanmış, köyün mimari özelliklerinin belgeleme çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında köy sınırlarında yer alan anıtsal ve sivil yapılar detaylı olarak incelenmiş, bu kapsamda köye ait kilise, manastır, cami, şapel, çeşme, okul, konut, değirmen gibi yapılar araştırılmış ve çizimleri yapılarak ve fotoğrafla belgelenmiştir. Bu çalışmalar ile köyün yerleşim tarihinin yapılar üzerinden incelenmesi ve belgelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.

Cemil village in Ürgüp district, one of the important settlements in Cappadocia Region, is a historical settlement where traces of structures can be seen from the Iron-Roman Ages to the present day. Cemil, which has been a Christian village since the Byzantine period, is a village where Greeks and Turks lived together from the Seljuk rule in Anatolia until the 1924 population exchange. After this date, it has maintained its traditional texture and characteristics as a village where exchangees from Thessaloniki were also settled. Cemil village is a qualified heritage region that reflects the social, cultural, economic and physical characteristics of its period with its unique texture, material remains from different periods. In the study, the current settlement characteristics of the village were addressed with written archive sources, and it was aimed to reveal the physical structure of the village from different civilization periods and to present the architectural characteristics of its traditional structures. In this context, the data of the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archive and General Directorate of Foundations, which are first-hand sources belonging to the village, were scanned and these documents were transferred to the current village plan and evaluated. At the same time, the 1976 aerial photograph belonging to the General Directorate of Mapping was examined, survey drawings of qualified structures were prepared, and documentation studies of the village's architectural features were carried out. Within the scope of the study, monumental and civil structures located within the village borders were examined in detail, and in this context, structures such as churches, monasteries, mosques, chapels, fountains, schools, residences, and mills belonging to the village were investigated and documented by drawing and photographing. The aim of these studies was to examine and document the settlement history of the village through structures.
