Aydın insanların hâkim olduğu toplumlar oluşturmanın yolu düşünce gelişimini önemsemek ve desteklemektir. Son yıllarda başta İngiltere ve ABD olmak üzere dünyada ve Türkiye’de eğitim programlarının odak noktasını düşünce gelişimi oluşturmaktadır. Tarih bilimi de doğası gereği üst düzey düşünme becerileri gerektiren sosyal bir bilim olduğundan bu alanda düşünce gelişimi ayrı bir öneme sahiptir. Ayrıca tarih araştırmalarında gereken başarının sağlanması ve objektif sonuçlara ulaşılması için tarihsel düşünme becerilerine sahip araştırmacılar yetişmesi büyük önem arz etmektedir. Tarihsel araştırma becerisi ise tarihsel düşünme berisinin bir alt boyutu olarak tarihsel gerçeğe bizatihi ulaşmanın ve tarihsel ürün oluşturmanın en önemli şartıdır. Öğrencilerin tarihsel düşünme becerilerinin gelişmesi ve demokratik karar verme seviyesine ulaşılması için üst bilişsel anlayışlarını harekete geçirmek gerekmektedir. Bunu için de öğretmenler tarihsel malzemeleri kullanmalı öğrencilerin dikkatlerini konuya çekmeli ve etkinlikler yapmalıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı tarih bölümü birinci sınıf öğrencilerinin tarihsel araştırma becerilerini incelemektir. Bu çalışmada 2014-2015 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar dönemi Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam Üniversitesi Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi Tarih Bölümü’nde okuyan 40 öğrenci, araştırmanın çalışma grubunu oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada tarih öğretmen adaylarının tarihsel araştırma becerilerini incelemek amacıyla tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yapılarak çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmen adaylarının konu seçimi ve sınırlamasında yeterince başarılı olamadıkları, çalıştıkları bir konuda sonuç çıkarmayı büyük oranda başaramadıkları, tarihsel araştırma becerileri konusunda istenilen seviyede olmadıkları gözlemlenmiştir. Tarihsel araştırma becerisinin gelişmesi için araştırma etkinlikleri yapılması ve tarih araştırma eserlerinin analiz edilmesi önerilebilir.

The way to create societies dominated by enlightened people is to emphasize and support thought development. During the recent years, especially in the United Kingdom and the United States, thought development has been the main focus of educational programs in the world and Turkey. Since history is also a social science that by its very nature requires high-level thinking skills, the development of thought in this field is of particular importance. Also, it is of great importance to train researchers with historical thinking skills to achieve the necessary success in historical research and to achieve objective results. Historical research skill,  as a sub-dimension of historical thinking skill, is the most important condition for achieving historical truth and creating a historical product. For students to develop their historical thinking skills and achieve the level of democratic decision-making, it is necessary to activate their metacognitive understanding. For this purpose, teachers should use historical materials, draw students' attention to the subject, and conduct activities. The aim of this study is to examine the historical thinking skills and historical research skills of first grade students in history department. The study group of the study was consisting of 40 students who were studying in the history department of Science and Literature Faculty in Kahramanmaraş University in spring semester of 2014-2015 academic year. The survey method was used for examining historical research skills of the students. To collect of data, it was used semi structured interview form which was prepared by researchers. The data obtained was analyzed by used content analyzing technique. The result of the study indicate that the teachers candidates were not be successful adequately about selecting and limiting of the subject, could not inference largely about any subject which they studied, and were not been in desired level about historical research skills. To developed of the students’ historical research skills, making research activities and analyzing of the historical research works are recommended.
