Kutadgu Bilig Türk millî kültürünün ilk yazılı, temel eserlerindendir. Yusuf Has Hacib bu eserde Türklerin manevî hayatını, siyasî ve idarî görüşlerini anlatmaktadır. Eser yazıldığı devirde büyük ilgi uyandırmış, Doğu ve Batı kültürlerince temel kitaplardan sayılmıştır. Eserle ilgili şimdiye kadar Hammer, Vambery, Radloff, Thomsen ve Z. Velidî Togan tarafından çeşitli yorumlar yapılsa da eseri ilk kez 1947 ve 1959’da Reşit Rahmeti Arat asıl metin ve Türkiye Türkçesine aktarılmış olarak yayımlamıştır. Kutadgu Bilig'in değişik açılardan incelenmesi önem arz etmektedir. Yazılışının 950. yılında bulunulan bu ilk İslami Türkçe manzum eser birçok bakımdan ele alınmış ve alınmaktadır. İlahiyatçıdan siyaset bilimciye, dilciden edebiyatçıya kadar çok sayıda bilim ve kültür erbabının dikkatini celbeden bu klasik eser, söz varlığı ve kavramları açısından da incelenmelidir. Söz varlığı çalışmalarının tarihi metinler üzerinde de uygulanması, Türk dilinin ifade kabiliyetinin çok eski tarihlerden itibaren yetkin olduğunu göstermek bakımından mühimdir. Bu amaçla çalışmada Kutadgu Bilig baştan sona taranmış, bilhassa kavram oluşturabilecek isim ve sıfat tamlamaları başta olmak üzere, bin yıl önceki Türkçenin tek heceli kelimeler ötesindeki ifade edebilme imkânlarının hangi sayıda ve seviyede olduğu istatistikî sonuçlarla tespit edilmiştir. Daha önce yapılmış olan Kutadgu Bilig dizinindeki kelimelerin konularına göre ayrı bir tasnifi de bu çalışma ile bir araya getirilmiştir. Eserin söz varlığının daha yüksek bir sayı ve seviyeye ulaştığını göstermek çalışmanın temel gayesidir.

Kutadgu Bilig is one of the first written works of the Turkish national culture. In this book, Yusuf Has Hacib describes the spiritual life, political and administrative views of the Turks. On the occasion of this symposium, we are thinking of obtaining statistical results by determining especially possessive constructions and adjective clauses and the number and level of possibilities of expressing Turkish language a thousand years ago by scanning Kutadgu Bilig from the beginning. By putting together a separate classification of the words according to the topics in the Kutadgu Bilig index, which had been carried out before, it is our main purpose to show that the vocabulary presence of this masterpiece has reached a higher number and level.
