SHEIKH AHMED SENUSSI IN TURKISH PRESS (1918-1924)

Sheikh Ahmad Senussi (1873-1933), who emphasized the ideal of jihad against the invasions of the imperial states (France, England, Italy) in various parts of North Africa, also had the idea of Islamic unity. Sheikh Senussi had received an invitation from Enver Pasha to spread the ideas of jihad and İttihad-ı İslam against imperialism on behalf of the Ottoman Sultan V. Mehmed Reşad. First he would go to Istanbul and then to various Islamic countries. But the events did not happen as planned. Sultan Mehmed Reşad passed away before Sheikh Ahmad Senussi came to Istanbul and VI. Mehmed Vahdeddin had passed the Ottoman throne. On August 30, 1918, Sheikh Ahmad Senussi, who arrived in Istanbul, besieged the sword with Sultan Vahdeddin in a ceremony held on August 31, 1918. As Sultan Vahdeddin did not allow him, he could not realize the project of wandering around the Islamic lands and spreading the ideas of jihad and the Islamic Union. Sheikh Ahmed Senussi was transferred to Bursa after the occupation of Istanbul. Sheikh Senussi, who was forced to live in Bursa for two years, decided to join the National Struggle. He traveled to many Anatolian provinces. In his sermons in places he went, he called for jihad against the occupying forces by trying to explain to the public that the National Struggle was right. He played an important role in suppressing the Delibaş uprising and the Kocgiri (Kurdish) uprising. It is observed that Sheikh Ahmed Senussi has been followed closely by the Turkish press since his arrival in Istanbul. Location changes during Anatolian travel, statements on various subjects, the telegrams that he sent to the government because of the victories and the special days took place in the press and he was followed with interest by the public through the press. In this study will be tried to be determined, in the context of news in some national newspapers, the role of Sheikh Ahmad Senussi in the Turkish National Struggle and what kind of perception was created by the press about Sheikh Ahmed Senussi in the public.
