The Historical Background Shaping The Thought World And Belief of Alija Izetbegovic


Alija Izetbegovic is one of the important Muslim thinkers besides being a political man and known as the Wise King of XX century of Europe. Izetbegovic who had played a vital role in the struggle for independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina had demonstrated a decisive stance and he is a leader who had earned the respect of the Muslim world. He is a thinker and an inspiration to the large young audiences by means of his works. He had spent many years at prison in the prime of life and that process had made him stronger. Izetbegovic who had presented Islam as a “third way” between two extreme ends had tried to dominate the “mediocre ummah” which was offered by the Quran. He had defended that it is imperative to emerge a strong belief in the construction of a moral society at the subject of eradication of laziness, hypocrisy, bribery and moral inferiarity among Muslims and the exhibition of moral behaviour which suits that belief he defended it. Alija Izetbegovic was born in a family environment living Islamic values, he had studied the Quran in childhood, and was able to overcome creedal fluctuation which he had during his youth by turning to the Islamic values. He is a philosopher and politician who had put Islam in the center of the world of his thought and he had interpreted the concepts of morality, justice, right, politics and democracy from this center. Certainly, the basis of perseverance and determination in his actions are based on a solid and unwavering belief. Just a strong belief can give direction to hard and struggling life. Surely, the source of strong belief that gives direction to his life is Islam. In our study we aim to introduce the fundamental dynamics of his strong belief that are the sources of his actions and the colors of his struggle.
