The Nature of the Narration of Hadiths: Evaluations on the Quantity of Narration by the Verbally and General Meaning

While the Prophet was alive, hadiths were written by some companions. This writing activity increased gradually after his death. At the end of the Hijri first century, the passage of the hadiths began with the appointment of the state itself, and towards the middle of the second century there was almost no hadith that had not been written. In this process, the narrative by verbally of the Prophet’s hadiths is revealed. The narration of verbally is called the word of the unchanged expression of the Prophet; synonyms are put in such a way that the meaning is not spoiled and the narration is called by general meaning. It is certain that it is difficult to be narrated by preserving the same words heard from the Prophet, and it depends on memory power. For this reason, the Prophet himself allowed permission to use the name. However, in the early periods, especially the companions and some of the followers did not welcome by general meaning and the report because of the importance and sensitivity of the narration of the hadith, and they brought forward the verbally narration. Nowadays, some people reach the result that almost all of the hadiths are narrated by general meaning of the great information in classical methodical sources. Acting from this result, they claim that the hadith texts belong to the narrators rather than to the Prophet, that they are changed, even changed. In this study, it is seen that the verbally narration is not as low as it is suggested; it will be revealed that the narration of general meaning is also under certain conditions and controlled.
