The Efficacy of Paper Collage Activities in the Psycho-Social Development of 4-5 Year-Old Children in Kindergartens

Researches in pre-school education, paper-collage activities were conducted to determine the effect of children on psychomotor fields, and the effects of artistic activities on the psychosocial development area of children were ignored. In recent years, important reports on the psychomotor field of children as well as paper-collage activities and psychological and social dimensions of children have been revealed. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effectiveness of the paper-collage based activity program in the psychosocial development of children aged 3-4 years who were educated in kindergarten. In the sample of the study, a total of 32 children, 15 boys and 17 girls, consisting of 15 boys and 17 girls, were the control group. Quantitative data collection techniques were used in the research and experimental design with random pre-test-post-test control group was applied. In the experimental group, activity programs based on artistic studies were applied in the education developed by the researcher. The programs are composed of six sections, each lasting 8 weeks, two hours each. In order to evaluate the psychosocial development of children, the demographic information form and the Turkish version of the measurement tools used in the study were reviewed by Karabekir et al. (2007), the early childhood stress index, the short 0-4 age social and emotional assessment (BITSEA) scale. According to the data obtained, variances were defined, content difference and frequencies were found and interpreted through tables. When the obtained data were examined, it was seen that there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of pretest and posttest scores. According to the results of the study, it was seen that paper-collage studies were applied and understood well by the children and had a positive effect on the psychosocial development of children. As a result of the study, it is suggested to carry out more descriptive and comprehensive artistic activities and to implement new activities.
