The Predictive Power of Just in World Belief, Hope, Positive and Negative Affect, Perceived Social Support for Meaning in Life


This study examined prediction effects of belief in a just world, trait hope, positive negative effect and social support on meaning in life. For this purpose, belief in a just world scale, trait hope scale, PANAS, perceived social support scale and meaning in life scale were utilized to 323 teachers in training. Independent t-test and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. The results revealed that independent variables accounted 13% of the variance explained in the dependent variables (R = .361, R2 = .130, F (4, 318) = 11.898, p = .000). Closer inspection of regression analysis showed that belief in a just world (β = .183; p < .01) contributed most to the model, flowing trait hope (β = .152; p < .05), positive negative effect (β = .234; p < .05), and social support (β = .120; p < .05).
