Mekân insan hayatındaki çok boyutlu önemine binaen birçok farklı disiplin için olduğu gibi sanat için de büyük bir önem teşkil etmektedir. En mekân-yoğun sanat dallarından birisi olan sinema, mekân kavrayışının oluşmasının sofistike birtakım süreçler gerektirmesi ve her safhasında insan faktörünün etkisinin oldukça fazla olması sebebiyle bu bağlamda diğer sanat dallarından ayrılmaktadır. Sinemasal mekân anlatının yanı sıra birçok sinemasal bileşenin bir araya gelmesiyle oluşmaktadır. Bununla birlikte sinemasal mekânın oluşmasında mekânın kendiliğinden sahip olduğu özgül değerler de önem taşımaktadır. Türkiye’de taşra bu minvalde sahip olduğu kendine has tarihsel, toplumsal ve sosyolojik arka planın da etkisiyle Türk Sinemasında geniş bir yer bulmuştur. Fakat bu yer bulmanın gerçek anlamda bir temsile dönüşmesi ve taşranın bireysel girişimler dışında süreklilik arz edecek bir biçimde, olduğu haliyle görünürlük kazanması Yeni Türk Sineması ile mümkün olmuştur. Yeni Türk Sineması taşrayı birörnek olarak görmemiş, taşraya içerden ve bireysel pencerelerden bakarak başka taşralar ile taşranın başkalıklarının ortaya çıkmasını olanaklı kılmıştır. Bununla birlikte taşranın sunduğu sinematografik olanakların klasik anlatının dışına çıkan şahsına münhasır üsluplarla ele alınmasıyla taşra çok katmanlı ve zenginlik arz eden bir sinemasal mekâna dönüşmüştür. Bu çalışma, taşranın anlatı bağlamında sinemasal bir mekân olarak değişen konumunun tahlil edilmesini amaçlamış, bu perspektifle bu yeni anlayışın temsilcilerinden olan “Bir Zamanlar Anadolu’da” filmini değerlendirmiştir.

Space is of great importance for art as it is for many different disciplines, which are based on the multidimensional importance of human life. Cinema, which is one of the most space-intensive arts branches, is separated from other art branches in this context because of the necessity of sophisticated processes in the formation of space understanding and the considerable human factor's effect at every stage. Cinematic space is formed by the combination of cinematic components as well as narrative. Besides, in the formation of the cinematic space, the specific values that the space itself possesses are also important. Province in Turkey within this direction, have wide coverage in Turkish Cinema with the influence of unique historical, social and sociological background. However, it has been possible with New Turkish Cinema that this coverage turn into representation in real terms and the province gain a continuous apparency as are beyond the individual initiative. The new Turkish cinema has not seen province as a uniform; has approached it from within and with individual perspectives, thus it has enabled to revealing different provinces and differences of provinces. At the same time, under favour of handling of cinematographic opportunities offered by the province with unique style and out of the classical narrative, the province has turned into a multilayered and substantial cinematic space. This study aimed to analyze the changing position of the province as a cinematic space in the context of narrative and in this perspective evaluated the film "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia".
