The aim of this study is to understand society on the consumption of art object (visual arts) with the help of theories at the field of material culture. For this purpose, this study has divided into two main parts. In the first part of the study, as a material culture, an argument on the position, role and function of the objects has been presented. In this part the relationship and interaction between social structure components, such as the role of the object on the construction and continuity of social life, life style, function in identity construction process, social stratification and the production of inequality, and objects as a material culture have been presented via material culture and semiotic theories. In the second part an approach to the meaning, function and trajectory of art object in social context has been enhanced. A point of view for the possibility of art object such as how art objects is produced as socially, under which conditions transform an abject to the art abject has been revealed, As a result of the work, art objects have turned into functional intermediaries that individuals use in their social practices and everyday practices. It has also been understood that art objects have been used as a symbolic tool by agency such as determination of social class and status, in the construction of identity, in self-presentation, in the production of economic and social relations of power and have playing an important role in the reproduction of the regularity of social space.
