Yaşlı istismarının önlenmesine yönelik girişimlerden biri yaşlı ve ailelerinin bakım konusunda profesyonel bakım elemanlarıyla desteklenmesidir. Ülkemizde bu amaçla Halk Eğitim Merkezinde Hasta-Yaşlı Refakatçiliği kursları açılmıştır. “Hasta-Yaşlı Refakatçiliği” kursunu başarıyla tamamlayan ve sertifika almaya hak kazanan bireyler, bakım kurumlarında ve/veya ev ortamında yaşlı bakımına katkı sağlayabilmektedir. Araştırmada katılımcılar, “Hasta-Yaşlı Refakatçiliği” kursu kursiyerlerinden seçilmiştir. Kursiyerlerin yaşlı istismarına yönelik düşüncelerinin belirlenmesinin, yaşlı bakım alanında verilen eğitimin içeriğinin düzenlenmesine, mevcut istismarın tanımlanmasına ve gerekli farkındalığın oluşmasına katkı sağlaması hedeflenmektedir. Bu doğrultuda araştırmada kursiyerlerin yaşlı istismarına yönelik düşüncelerinin tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel türdedir. Araştırmacıların gözlemlerine, deneyimlerine dayanarak ve ilgili Literatür taranarak soru formu üretilmiş ve kursun ilk günü, mülakat tekniğiyle uygulanmıştır. Katılımcılara araştırmanın amacı ve soru formu açıklanmış, sözlü onayları alınmıştır. Elde edilen veriler bilgisayar ortamında, istatistik programları kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Katılımcıların %91,3’ü yaşlı istismarı terimini duymuştur. Yaşlı istismar olgusuyla karşılaşanlar (%42), istismarı uygulayanların yaşlının “çocukları” (%47) ve “akrabası” (%20,6) olduğunu vurgulamışlardır. Yaşlıların en sık “psikolojik” (%37,0) ve “fiziksel” (%27,2) istismar mağduru olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. İstismarın yaşlı bireye ilişkin nedenleri arasında “yaşlının bakıma muhtaç olması” (%40,8) önemli yer tutmaktadır. İstismarı uygulayan bireylere ilişkin nedenler arasında “ekonomik” (%38,3) ve “psikolojik” (%21,0) sorunlarının olması ve “eğitim seviyesinin düşük olması” (%24,7) geniş yer tutmaktadır. Yaşlı bakım alanında istihdam edilmek isteyen bireylerin, yaşlı istismarına yönelik düşüncelerinin belirlenmesi ve eğitim içeriğinin düzenlenmesi toplumda yaşlı istismarına yönelik farkındalığının belirlenmesi açısından önemlidir.

One of the attempts to prevent the old abuse is supporting the old and the family with professional care staff on nursing. In our country, for this aim, Sitter for Elderly Patients Courses have been opened in Public Education Center. Individuals who have completed the training and received a certificate in sitting for elderly patients, “Sitter for Elderly Patients” certificate, can contribute to elderly care in nursing homes and/or at home. In this survey, participants were chosen among the trainees of Sitter for Elderly Patients Courses. Determining the opinions of trainees on the old abuse is aimed to contribute to regulate the content of education on the oldies nursing, to define the actual abuse and to create the necessary awareness. In this way, it is aimed to identify the opinions of the trainesses about the old abuse in this research. The research is descriptive and cross sectional. A questionnaire form was prepared based on the observations and experiences of researchers and a review of the related literature. It was applied at the very first day of the course through interview technique. The aim of the study and the questionnaire were explained to the participants. Written consent was obtained from all participants. The data were analyzed using statistical computer programs. By searching the literature, the question form is prepared and on the first day of the course, it is done by interview technic. %91.3 of the participants have heard about the term of the old abuse. Experiencing the old abuse fact (%42) emphasized that (%47) ‘children’ of the old and (%20.6) ‘relatives’ of the old perform the abuse. They noticed that the old people are often ‘psychological’ (%37.0) and physical (%27.2) victims. Among the reasons why elderly people are abused “because elderly people are in need of care” (40.8%) has an important place. The reasons why carers abuse elderly are as follow: “economic reasons” (38.3%), “psychological problems of carers” (21.0%), and “low education status of carers” (24.7%). Defining the opinions of the people who will be employed in the field of the old nursing and regulating the content of the education are significant to determine the awareness for the old abuse in society.
