Bu çalışmada, Platon’un adalet ve savaş üzerine düşünceleri özellikle Devlet diyalogunda temelinde analiz edilmekte, Platon’un dil bir savaş teorisine sahip olup olmadığı üzerine bir tartışma yürütülmektedir. Bu anlamda, Platon’un savaşı insanoğlunun birlikte yaşamasının kaçınılmaz bir sonu olarak görüp görmediği tartışılacaktır. İnceleme diğer diyaloglardan da kısaca yararlanılmak suretiyle, özellikle Devlet diyalogu çerçevesinde gerçekleştirilecektir. Devlet diyaloğu bize adil savaş teorisi hakkında ön bilgiler vermektedir. Özellikle Devlet diyalogu I. Kitapta Sokrates, adil bir devletin nasıl olması gerektiğini tartışır ve adaletsizliğin açık bir biçimde savaşa neden olduğunu açıklar. Ancak daha sonra, amacı şehri savunmak olan koruyucuların durumunu belirlemesiyle birlikte II. Kitapta fikri değişmeye başlar. Sokrates, savaş konusunu adalet temelinde tartışır ve II., IV. ve V. Kitaplar üzerinden savaşın adil şehrin siperi olduğu sonucuna ulaşır. Buna ek olarak diyalogda, çok fazla lüks yaşam isteğinin de insanları savaşa sürüklediğini belirtir. In this study, it is analysed Plato’s thoughts about justice and war. It is discussed if Plato has a theory of war in the Republic and examined if Plato regards the war as an inevitable feature of human coexistence. In this sense, the discussion about war will be especially on Republic although it is benefited from other dialogues. Socrates discuss about how to be a just city and states clearly that injustice causes war in Book I, but her mind starts to change in Book II by identifying the situation of guardians whose purpose of defending the city. However, Socrates discusses the topic of war in light of justice and concludes that war is the outworking of the perfectly just city throughout Books II, IV and V. Accordingly, Socrates having shown that the quest for luxury leads to ever expanding desires that in turn lead to war in the Republic.
