In this study, it is analysed Plato’s thoughts about justice and war. It is discussed if Plato has a theory of war in the Republic and examined if Plato regards the war as an inevitable feature of human coexistence. In this sense, the discussion about war will be especially on Republic although it is benefited from other dialogues. Socrates discuss about how to be a just city and states clearly that injustice causes war in Book I, but her mind starts to change in Book II by identifying the situation of guardians whose purpose of defending the city. However, Socrates discusses the topic of war in light of justice and concludes that war is the outworking of the perfectly just city throughout Books II, IV and V. Accordingly, Socrates having shown that the quest for luxury leads to ever expanding desires that in turn lead to war in the Republic.
