Seyircinin zihninde gerçeklik algısını en etkili şekilde sinema filmleri yaratabilmektedir. Bu nedenle beyazperdeden yansıyan görüntüler ne kadar gerçekdışı olursa olsun, seyirci o görüntüleri gerçekmiş gibi değerlendirmektedir. Bu noktada gerçek ile kurgunun birbirine karışması nedeniyle, sinemanın gerçeklikle kurduğu ilişki sıklıkla tartışılmıştır. Bu tartışmalar iki ana eksende yürütülmüştür: Bazıları sinemanın kamera vasıtasıyla kaydettiklerinin ve gösterdiklerinin gerçek olduğunu savunmuş, bazıları da kameranın gerçekliği yansıtamayacağını iddia etmiştir. Bu tartışmalar ekseninde sinemanın tarihle ilişkisi en çok gündeme getirilen konuların başında gelmektedir. Sinema filmleri aracılığıyla yansıtılan tarihin ne kadar gerçekliğe yaklaşabileceği tartışma konularından sadece birisidir. Zira perdeden yansıtılan görüntülerin gerçeklik algısı yaratmadaki etkisi, seyircilerin özellikle tarihi filmleri değerlendirirken filmlerin kurgusallığını geri plana atmalarına neden olmaktadır. Buradan hareketle çalışma, sinema-gerçeklik ilişkisi çerçevesinde, tarihi filmler ile gerçeklik üzerine yürütülen tartışmaların temel noktalarını ortaya koyabilmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında başlangıcından bu yana sinemanın gerçeklikle kurduğu bağ, sinema filmlerinin kurgusal özelliğinin geri plana atılmasının nedenleri ve bu bağlamda tarihi filmler üzerine yürütülen tartışmalar ele alınmıştır. Bu tartışmaların temel başlıklarını oluşturabilmek amacıyla, literatürün yanı sıra konuyla ilgili haberlerden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmada, söz konusu tartışmalarda çoğu zaman sinemanın dramatik/kurgusal yapısının gözden kaçırıldığı, gerçeklikle kurduğu bağın yanlış değerlendirildiği ve sinemaya tarih öğreticiliği misyonunun yüklenildiği sonucuna varılmıştır.

It is movies that can create a perception of reality in the minds of the viewers most effectively. For this reason, no matter how much unreal the scenes that reflect from the widescreen are, viewers interpret these scenes as real. At this point, since reality and fiction are jumbled, the relationship of cinema with reality has frequently been discussed. These discussions have been conducted in two main aspects. Some defend that the things which cinema record and show via movie camera are real, and some claim that video camera cannot reflect reality. In the scope of these discussions, cinema's relationship with history has been one of the topics that has been brought up most frequently. How close history that reflects through movies can come to the reality is only one of the discussion topics since the effect of the scenes on creating a reality perception causes viewers to put fictiveness of movies in the background especially while interpreting historical movies. From this point of view, this study aims to reveal main points of the discussions on historical movies and reality in the scope of cinema-reality relationship. Within the scope of the study, connection between cinema and reality, reasons of putting fictional characteristic of films in the background and in this regard discussions conducted on historical films are addressed. With the aim of creating main points of these discussions, news on this issue were benefited from as well as the literature. In the study, it was concluded that, in these discussions mentioned, dramatic / fictional structure of the cinema is mostly overlooked, its connection with reality is misjudged and cinema is loaded with the charge of teaching history.
