Women Discourse in Ziya Gökalp’s Poems


The poems of Ziya Gökalp, the father of sociology, arise from his ideology. Gökalp, who thinks about how to establish a new life and wants to create a new understanding of life, has made that the Turkism to turn into a movement of idea. He reflected his views in articles and poems. He evaluates the Turkism on the ground of nationality in every field. With an intellectual and intellectual identity that influenced the founding of the new Turkey, Ziya Gökalp, in his articles and poems, has included a wide range of subjects, from women’s rights to politics and from religion to economics. Gökalp examines the issues of family and women in the sociology center in the years when the Republic of Turkey is founded. He evaluates the role of women in social life and deals with the family institution. However, Gökalp brought a different perspective to the woman's social life and talked about a different woman model than the idea of traditional structure with the ideas he had put forward at the beginning of the twentieth century. In his articles and poems, while questioning the place of woman in society, the issue of vocationalization of woman was brought to the agenda. When considering the conditions of the period, he shows a reformist approach and emphasizes the necessity of the professionalization of women and opens the way of science and education path to women. Interprets the concept of feminism in the context of Turkism and underlined the equality between men and women. In this work, the woman discourse of Ziya Gökalp’s in poems will be revealed by means of the prose. Gökalp’s woman discourse will be analyzed around these titles: “Panoramic perspective to Ziya Gökalp’s writing life, his period and poetry”, “Ziya Gökalp’s view of the notion of family and women discourse”, “the processing of the woman element in Gökalp’s poems”, “Ziya Gökalp and notion of feminism” and “the subject of vocationalization of woman in Ziya Gökalp’s poems and woman’s duties”.
