Teknolojik, ekonomik ve ekolojik alanlarda oluşan gelişmeler sanat ve tasarımda da paradigma değişikliklerini beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu yeni paradigmalar ekseninde gelişimini sürdürerek varlığını koruyan görsel iletişim tasarımı ve bu alanda ulusal ve uluslararası düzeyde verilen eğitimin bir analizi olarak çalışma alana katkı sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışma; hem nicel hem de nitel yöntemlerin birlikte kullanılması ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında görsel iletişim/grafik tasarım alanında eğitim veren fakülte ve bölümler incelenmiş ayrıca bu bölümlerde görev yapan öğretim elemanlarına uygulanan bir anket ile alan hakkındaki fikirleri saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Elde edilen bulguların değerlendirilmesi ile amaçlanan sonuç hakkında yorumların yapıldığı bu çalışma ‘grafik tasarım’ kavramı ile ‘görsel iletişim tasarımı’ kavramı arasındaki terminoloji sorununu derinlemesine incelemesi bakımından önem taşımaktadır.

Visual communication design, which survives by continuing its development on the axis of these new paradigms, and this dissertation study, which is an also analysis of the education in the national and international levels, Contributes to the field. This study is carried out along with using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Within the scope of this study, the faculties and departments which give education in the fields of visual communication and graphic design as well as the opinions of the instructors are tried to be detected with a questionnaire by conducting them. This study in which there are reviews about the intended result with the evaluation of the findings obtained, has an importance in terms of examining in depth the terminology problem between the concept of graphic design and visual communication design.
