A Bibliography on Ahmad Yasawî: Considerations on the Studies about Yasawî in Turkey


Ahmed Yasawi, a major Turkish Sufi and well-known with the name of “Hazret-i Turkistan” or “Pir-i Turkistan”, with his great work “Diwan-i Hikmat” and his disciples, he influenced an extensive area from Central Asia to the Balkans. Yasawi played an important role in turkization and propagating Islam in Anatolia. Some important sufis such as Sheykh Adabali, Haji Baktash Wali, Sarı Saltuk and Akhi Avran were followers of Ahmet Yasawi in Anatolia. The followers of Yasawi were also known warrior darwish (santon) and with attached importance to morals of trade and enlightening women in Anatolia. Because of these characteristics had written works about Ahmed Yasawi and Yasawism from early period in Anatolia. Several studies have been made on the “Diwan al-Hikma” and Yasawism in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. It has been known that working many articles, papers and books about Yasawi in Turkey. In this article we offered some assessment of these studies about him in Turkey. Moreover I presented an extensive bibliography consists of researches made on Ahmad Yasawi. There are articles and papers that make assessment of those works on Yasawi in the western world, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan (Tashkent) etc. However the absence of similar studies -yet- in this manner is a significant deficiency in Turkey. My main purpose in this study is removing this deficiency and providing a picture of the level of the work has been made on Yasawi.
