In this research a study has been made on a novel of Hasan Ali Topbaş, namely Uykuların Doğusu (The East of the Dreams). The author who has also written essays and prose like poems alongside novels and short stories owes his fame in Turkish literature to his novels. He has won some important prizes by the novels he has committed to paper. When we review the evaluations made over his novels we conclude that the novels are successful both in fictional and technical fields, but the main appreciation goes to his ability to use the language in a unique way. However there are not enough studies which analyze this aspect of the writer in a detailed manner in spite of the fact that many people are aware of its presence. The critics generally deal with the relation between the writer and post-modernism while evaluating his style. In other words there has been certain evaluations on the philosophical contents shaping the style but these studies mainly lack in analyzing the approach applied to linguistic materials. In this study we aim to exhibit the properties which make Toptaş’s language so different and effective. The study is restricted with the novel entitled Uykuların Doğusu. Although we have made such a restriction Hasan Ali Topbaş’s novels, except his last novel Heba, reflect similar qualities in language and expression. Therefore this stylistic study which is a conclusion of the analyses made on the mentioned novel has the quality to give general opinions on his other novels as well. In the evaluation the text holds a central role and the findings are presented under appropriate titles without the need to depend on certain evaluative methods.
