An Analysis of the Mehmet Kaplan’s Articles on Yunus Emre and His Poems


Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kaplan (1915-1986) is one of the researchers who studied most on Yunus Emre, having over 30 articles only about him and citing different aspects of him almost in all of his studies. Undoubtedly, Yunus Emre is one of the biggest and the most important figures of Turkish literature. He is, both with his usage of language and the themes he approached and the beauty of his world perspective, a “universal and wise” person. It is necessary to know and understand well the background of Yunus Emre’s poems to understand and appraise them properly. This background is clearly revaled in Mehmet Kaplan’s analysis of Yunus Emre and his works. Mehmet Kaplan, in his articles, emphasises Yunus Emre’s short but striking statements. Kaplan’s studies on Yunus Emre and his poems which are written by a contemporary view are very important in order to understand Yunus and his poems and transfer the literary and cultural value of this to next the generations. The works of Mehmet Kaplan about Yunus Emre and his poems at different times occupy in various journals and books. In this article, Mehmet Kaplan’s studies on Yunus Emre and his works/poems which are amorphously present in different publications are chronogically identified and valued as a whole. In this way, Mehmet Kaplan’s lifelong studies about Yunus Emre and their historical background and basic characteristics are revealed, also itis given that a concrete sample of examining Yunus Emre and his works with using modern methods.
