Visualisation of the Language in Social Media: A Research Aimed at Using the Visual Keyboard and Punctuation Marks

This research is related to the social media and using the language in the social media which has recently taken a very important part in human life. Being producted of the contents by the user in the social media differenty from the mass media makes the control of the written language and expressions used hard and even impossible. Although the right knowledge is possessed in the point of using the language, the visual keyboard which is called as abbreviations, punctuation marks and emoji (thing which enables that the emotions are expressed with pictures) is commonly used because of reasons like the desire of fast expressing and time constraint. Within the scope of this research, the visualisation of punctuation marks which are commonly used and visualisation of the language through emojis, the new meaning in the language and their using levels by the university students are examined. At the end of the survey study which was made with total 275 students who study in Cumhuriyet University, some conclusions like expressing the emotions in a better way through emojis, giving a meaning to the contents, economisation of time were reached.
