Şanlıurfa iline bağlı Siverek ilçesi Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi’nin Orta Fırat Bölümü’nde bulunur. Millî kültürümüzün önemli konularından biri de ad vermedir. Adbilimin dallarından biri olan yer adları (Toponimi) ise, bir toprak parçasını vatan haline getirmesi bakımından daha çok önem kazanmıştır. Tarih boyunca Siverek çeşitli devletlerin egemenliğine girmiştir. Burada yaşayan insanlar yayıldığı geniş coğrafyadaki dağ, ova, nehir ve ırmaklara, kurduğu yerleşim merkezlerine yeni adlar vererek, buraları vatan haline getirmek ihtiyacı duymuşlardır. Aslında yer adları, yalnız orada yerleşen insan topluluklarından değil, zaman zaman o bölgenin doğal çevre özelliklerinden yani yerin yapısından, iklim şartlarından, bitki örtüsü ve üzerinde yaşayan canlılardan, ekonomik ve kültürel ürünlerinden etkilenmiş ve bu etki altında, yerler adlandırılmış yer adları ile üzerinde yaşayanlar ve çevre bir bütünlük kazanmışlardır. Bu makalede Siverek ilçesindeki köy yer adı coğrafi bakış açısıyla fiziki, beşeri ve ekonomik özelliklerine göre sınıflandırılmaya çalışılmıştır. Bunu yaparken de, ülkemizin kültür zenginliğini oluşturan unsurlardan biri olan yer adlarının kaynaklarının incelenmesi ve öneminin belirlenmesine katkıda bulunma amaçlanmıştır. Siverek ilçesindeki köy adları incelendiğinde, yer adı vermede hem doğal çevre ve hem de beşeri ve ekonomik çevre faktörlerinden etkilenilmiş olduğu görülmektedir. Nitekim, ilçedeki toplam 156 köy yerleşmesinden 89 ( %57.1)’u adını beşeri ve ekonomik coğrafya özelliklerinden, 56 ( % 35.8)’sı ise fiziki coğrafya unsurlarından almışken, 11 (% 7.1)’nin adının anlamı ve kaynağı tespit edilememiştir.

Siverek, a district of Şanlıurfa province, is located in the Middle Fırat Section of Southeast Anatolia Region. One of the important topics of our national culture is to give names to settlements. Toponomi, which take part in science of names disciplines, become more important with regard to bringing a piece of land to a homeland. Throughout the history, Siverek had stayed under sovereignty of different states. Whenever the people of Siverek needed to transform the place that they live to a country by giving new names to the mountains, plains and rivers in the wide geography that the people are located in. Actually, the names of places were not affected only by the residents; they were also influenced by the natural features of the region such as structure of ground, climate conditions, flora and living things, economic and cultural products. Under this influence, places have been named and the names of places, living things and environment have created an integrity. In this article, the names of neighborhoods in Siverek have been tried to classify geographically in terms of physical, social and economic characteristics. By doing this, it is aimed to contribute to the examination and importance of the names of places which is one of the elements of the cultural wealth of our country. When the names of neighborhood in Siverek have been examined, it has been understood that natural, human and economic environments factors have influences on giving names to the places. It has been observed that there are 156 neighborhoods/village in Siverek; the results show that 89 (57.1%) of 156 have been influenced by the human and economical geography features; 56 (35.8%) of 156 have been affected by the physical geographical features and finally, the meanings and sources of 11 (7.1%) of 156 could not been classified.
