On The Dialect of Shahsavan

Due to the massive immigration of Turks, many Turk ethnics chose Iran as their main fatherland. Geography of Iran is known as one of the main areas of western Turkish dispersion. According to many researchers, the geography of Iran is important because of the recognition of Turk and Turkish language. The existence of different Turkish dialects in various parts of Iran, represents a historical record. These dialects and accents have suffered of various changes over the time, and some of them are on the verge of entire extinction, now. One of the Turk nations who live continually in different provinces of Iran are Shahsavans. Although Shahsavans live in northwestern of Iran, but they can be seen in different provinces. One of the provinces where the tribe of Shahsavans has been living centralized there, is Zanjan province. In this paper, whilst introducing Shahsavans, general information about them is presented, too. In addition, the recognition of the important characteristics of the dialect of Shahsavan is studied. Language data contained in this publication has been compiled from the Shahsavans of Zanjan province. According to gathered information, the main properties of phonetic and structural of Shahsavani's Turkish have been determined. The most important features that distinguish Shahsavani's Turkish from other Turkish dialects in Iran, is the use of extension -Im/-Um (first-person singular suffix) and the extension of -sIn / -sUn (second person singular suffix). Being decentralized of Shahsavans and having the minority of population in their area of living, lead their language to destruction, on the other hand the influence of other dialect on the Shahsavani's Turkish can be seen clearly. Thus, by taking these points into account, recording the specifications of Shahsavan's dialect is necessary.
