Effects of Abdullah Ibn Masud to Early Development of Islamic Jurisprudence and Hanafi Madhhab


Abdullah ibn Masud, was one of Hz. Muhammad's companions who had always been near him and he was one of the early Qur’an scholars. He was the best knower of Sunnah between the companions and he understood Fıqh beter than them all. In the period of Rashid Khalifa’s, they consulted İbni Masud because He was the most knowledgeable on the Shariah. In subsequent periods he was known for his fıqh opinions and ijtihads among the fıqh scholars. Abdullah İbn Masud became qadi of Kufa in the term of Umar ibn Al-Khattab (642 CE) and he began his scholarly activities here. Abu Hanifa was educated in this city and he began to study under some of the resident scholars of Kufa. And some of these scholars educated by İbn Masud so we can say İbn Masud formed the most important companions basis of Hanafi madhhab Abdullah İbn Masud provided major contribution to Sunni scholarship. We can say especially Hanafi scholars benefited from his fatwas, ijtihads, his fıqh opinions about worship and its transactions and also they benefited from the Narration around him. So we explained in our study the connection of İbn Masud and Hanafi madhhab in the historical adventure of Islamic fıqh. In addition these we gave an examples about İbn Masud ijtihads that accepted by only Hanafis to prove this connection
