Comparison Of The Idioms Used In The French And Turkish People Description

Idioms are known as a word, a phrase or a fixed expression. They have different meaning, sometimes figurative and sometimes realistic. There are thousands of idioms, and they frequently occur and also are used in all languages as French and Turkish. In both languages, they can be used with their literal meaning and they’re common phrases or terms in french and turkish. Their meaning sometimes is not real, but can be understood by their popular use. In this study, idioms related with people descriptions in Turkish and French are studied in the point of view of the semantic and syntactic features. In the both languages, interessing expressive features indicates that they can semantically and syntactically be used in the similar and different ways. We have tried to give the images in terms of language syntax and semantics explained with examples. Other part, the Common European Framework prepared by the Council of Europe supports the teaching of these expressions namely idioms. In the books supported by Council, we see them while decorating the power of the expression. The idioms selected in the study, although limited by describing people, it gives us to comprehensive and detailed information about the structure of society.
