Tevfik Fikret (1867-1915) left his mark on Turkish poetry. His first poems were published in Tercüman-ı Hakikat newspaper between the years1884-1885. The effect of Divan literature was obvious on poetry until the beginning of twentieth century. However, poems were written according to Western literary forms in the context of shape and content. The reason of change in his understanding of poetry in the coming years is that Fikret went to Mektebi Sultani (Galatasaray High School). He closely knew the traditional poetry of the Ottoman society and also had the opportunity to know Western poetry during his education in Mektebi Sultani . These two different civilizations had different views of time and these different views were reflected in Fikret's poetry. His most important work is “Rübâb-ı Şikeste”. Multiple viewpoints of the concept of time are discussed in "Rübâb-ı Şikeste ". Poet dwells on the continuity of time and its kinetic character. Then he turns it into a problematic situation. He evaluates life and society based on contemporary values. Time-based truth is problematic for the poet's time and sensitivity. He feels helpless against the encompassing character of time and he desires to get rid of this situation. In his poets issues regarding social life are associated with specific time periods. This approach enriches the poem as it reflects the sad personality of the poet and enhances the dramatic issues. He is sensitive to the societal problems of his time. Poems regarding the societal problems were written during the Second Constitutional Era. Although Fikret did not join to any political group during the Second Constitutional Era when there was an ‘organized society’ he could not remain insensitive to social issues. This approach can be explained by sensitive personality rather than his political stance. Poet started to imagine a beautiful feature because his expectations were not met at that time. He reflects his hopes for the future by associating with his son Haluk.
