Dissertation of Ahmet Harami’s Epopee With Regard to Axel Olrik’s Epic Laws

Danish folklorist Axel Olrik simply lay the foundation of folklor studies by his writing of the Epic Laws of Folk Narrative. Olrik says these rules can be implemented both all European folklore literatüre and other literatüre. Although all these principles are similar he says that national characteristics are just like accent differences. Moreover, he suggest that main rules of “sage” structure influence the traditional categories of folk narrate so we can denominate these principles as rule because they limit the freedom of creativity of oral literatüre more rigid than that of written literatüre. The common rules which built up the sages such as epopee, fable, ballad, myth, etc. create the Epic Laws of Folk Narrative. Epopee of Ahmet Harami, thought to be written in the 14 th century, is a Turkish Heroic sage as a folktale. This epopee, bear the name of Dâstân-ı Ahmet Harami which is anonymity, plays on very important role in literatüre and history of Turkish language. The only copy is a poetic story type book and copied at the and of the 16 th century while it is understood that it is compiled during the 14 th century because of its linguistic properties. It was first read by Ahmet Talat Onay and donated to the library of Turkish Language Association but this copy is not available now. Our study is based on the text in the series of Tercuman 1001 Temel Eser by Halis Akaydın. In the current dissertation, we practised Epic Laws of Folk Narrative to the Ahmed Harami’s Epopee. In this study first we summurized the text of epopee, then application of Epic Laws on epopee was estipulated. In the light of these informating we confirm that Ahmet Harami’s Epopee is overfit with Epic Laws of Folk Narrative. İn the last section, we comment the results to reach a conclusion, then finish the study.
