Demokrasi kavramı özellikle Soğuk Savaş’ın sona ermesinden sonra, bütün olumlu özellikleri içerisinde barındıran bir kavram olarak sıkça kullanılmaktadır. İnsanlığın ulaştığı/ulaşması gereken ideal bir sistem olarak sunulan demokrasi, hemen her toplumsal konu ile ilintili olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. Demokrasi ile ekonomik kalkınma ve siyasal istikrar arasında doğru orantılı bir bağın olduğu görüşü literatürde farklı bilim insanları tarafından dillendirilmektedir. Demokrasinin ekonomik kalkınmanın sebebi veya sonucu olarak var olduğu görüşünün yanında, eş zamanlı olarak birbirlerinin ortaya çıkışında etkili olduklarını savunanlar da vardır. Demokrasi ile ekonomik kalkınma arasında doğrudan bir bağ olmadığı görüşü de kendine taraftar bulmaktadır. Türkiye’de de siyasal istikrar ile ekonomik kalkınma ve demokrasi arasında ciddi bir bağ olduğu yönündeki yaklaşımlar dile getirilmektedir. Siyasi istikrarın olmadığı dönemlerde hem ekonomik kalkınmanın yavaşladığı, hem de demokratik adımlar atılamadığı ve hatta bu konularda geriye gidiş olduğu ileri sürülmektedir. Bu çalışmada farklı yaklaşımlar gerekçeleri ile ortaya konularak, demokrasi ile ekonomik kalkınma ve siyasal istikrar arasında bir bağ olduğu, Türkiye örneği çerçevesinde ortaya konmaya çalışılmaktadır.

The concept of democracy has been widely used as a concept including all the positive features especially since the cold War ended. Democracy, which is presented as an ideal system that humanity need to achieve, arises in relation to almost every social issue. The view that has a direct link between economic development and political stability through democracy is being voiced by different scientists in the literature. Besides the opinion of existence of democracy as a cause or result of the economic development, there are those who claim to be effective in the appearance of each other simultaneously. The idea that there isn’t a direct link between economic development and democracy is also finding its supporter. The establishment of a coalition government in countries such as Turkey, where democracy is not fully institutionalized, as it complicates the solution of the problem and can lead to the emergence of new problems. Approaches that there is a serious link between economic development and political stability and democracy in Turkey, are being expressed. As well as slowing economic growth in the absence of political stability, and not even the democratic steps taken and proposed to be going back on these issues. Research shows that Turkey develops rapidly in the periods when political stability in Turkey remains. Coalition periods are called ‘lost years’. Coalition government with the political ambition does not allow the optimum use of resources. Completely incompatible with each other due to economic understanding and opportunist politics are drifting toward a worse spot than with the country’s future should be. In this study, different approaches are put forth with reasons and it is attempted to have a link between economic development and political stability through democracy.
