Sosyal Bilgiler ortaya çıkışı itibariyle sosyal bilimlerin pedagojik amaçlarla basitleştirilmesiyle oluşturulan bir öğretim programıdır. Diğer ülkelerde olduğu gibi ülkemizde de sosyal bilgiler dersi ile amaçlanan esas konu iyi vatandaş yetiştirmektir. 2005 yılından itibaren yapılandırmacı yaklaşımın benimsenmesiyle önemi artan alanlardan biri olan vatandaşlık eğitimi, sosyal bilgiler programlarında ara disiplin olarak ve 8. Sınıfta okutulan “Vatandaşlık Ve Demokrasi Eğitimi” dersinde verilmektedir. Ancak “iyi ve etkin vatandaş yetiştirme” göz önüne alındığında verilen vatandaşlık eğitimi sonucunda öğrencilerin gözüyle iyi vatandaşın niteliği ve sahip olması gereken nitelikler konusunda öğrencilerin de görüşleri oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı öğrencilerin gözüyle iyi vatandaşın sahip olması gereken özellikler hakkında öğrencilerin görüşlerini almaktır. Araştırma 2014-2015 eğitim yılı bahar döneminde Adıyaman’ın Kahta ilçesinde milli eğitime bağlı bir ortaokulda 150 sayıda 7. Sınıf öğrenciyle yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilere “Sizce iyi vatandaş nedir? Nasıl olmalıdır?” şeklinde sadece bir tane açık uçlu soru sorulmuştur. Öğrencilerden alınan yanıtlar, içerik analizi kullanılarak kodlanmış ve araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda yüzde frekans tabloları verilerek yorumlanmıştır. Araştırma sonunda iyi vatandaş olmanın nitelikleri ile ilgili değer, çevreci, vatanseverlik, hak, dini, iletişim becerileri, davranış, eğitim ve güncel olaylar bilgisi olmak üzere 9 boyutun ortaya çıktığı ve bu boyutlardan en çok değer boyutunun üzerinde durulduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu görüşler doğrultusunda öğretmenlere vatandaşlık eğitiminin sosyal bilgiler ders kazanımlarına ilaveten değer eğitimi şeklinde öğrencilere aktarılması önerilebilir.

As for appearence of Social Studies it is an education program which is simplified of Social Sciences for the pedagogic purposes. As in the other counties, our country’s main aim is to raise good citizens via Social Studies. Citizenship Education, which has been one of the prominent branches since adoption of Constructivist Aprroach in 2005, is given as a sub-branch of Social Studies Programs and ‘’Cizetezenship and Democracy Education Lesson ‘’ at 8th grades. On the other hand if ‘’ good and active citizen raising ‘’ considered the citizenship education given is so crucial especially views of students on the name of requirements of good citizen and qualities of good citizen should have. The aim of this study is to get students’ opinions on the requirements of good citizen. The study was carried with 150 7th grade students in 2014-2015 Spring Term at a public school in Adıyaman, county of Kahta, which is dependent on Ministry of Education. The attendants were asked only one open-ended question as ‘’ What is good citizen ? How to be ? ‘’ The gathered answers were encoded by using content analysis and were commented on the intended purpose of researcher via percentage charts. At the end of study it is emerged that there are 9 dimensions of good citizen; moral, environmentalist, patriotic, justice, religion, communication skills, behaviours, education and current info knowledge and it is found that the most emphasized one is moral. Accordance with these views it can be advised to the teachers in addition to Social Studies’ objectives transmission of Citizen Education in the form of Moral Education.
