İnsan tabiatının en önemli gereksinimlerinden birisi de eğlenme ve rahatlama ihtiyacıdır. Zira insanın hem bedenen hem de ruhen tam bir doyuma ulaşmasında eğlenme ve rahatlama aktiviteleri mühim bir yer kaplamakta bu ihtiyaçlar giderilmediğinde insan kendisini eksik hissetmekte bu durum da ona rahatsızlık vermektedir. Bu bağlamda, İnsan psikolojisini analiz hususunda en mahir kişilerden birisi olan Hz. Peygamber insanın beden ve ruh dünyasında önemli mevki işgal eden eğlenme ve rahatlama ihtiyacını görmezden gelmemiş, meşru yani İslam Dini’nin çizmiş olduğu sınırlar dâhilindeki eğlenme ve rahatlama aktivitelerine onay vermiştir. Ancak günümüz Müslümanları bu konuda maalesef peygamberlerinin vermiş olduğu bu onayın mahiyet ve içeriğinden bîhaber bir vaziyette ifrat ve tefrit aralığında gidip gelmektedirler. Onların kimisi eğlenme adı altında kantarın topuzunu iyice kaçırmış bir vaziyette günah ve sapkınlığın zirvelerinde yol almakta iken kimisi de Müslüman’ca eğlenmenin e sinden habersiz olduğu halde en büyük dindar benim havalarıyla düğün evini cenaze evine çevirecek uygulamaların altına imza atmaktadır. Eğer bir İslam toplumunda düğün esnasında havaya durduk yere ateş açan maganda ve onun kurbanlarının sayısı durmadan artıyorsa, televizyon ekranlarında eğlence ve eğlenme adı altında her türlü ahlaksızlığa ve kültürel yozlaşmaya davetiye çıkaran bir sürü program yayınlanabiliyor ve bu programlar reytinglerde en üst seviyelerde kendilerine yer bulabiliyorsa, statlarımızda küfrün, düşmanlığın, şikenin önüne geçilemiyorsa, din adına konuşma yetkisine haiz olmayan kimselerin İslamî eğlence diye toplumda aslı astarı olmayan şeyleri ihdas etmelerinin ardı arkası kesilmiyor ve ihdas edilen anlayışlar toplumun kendilerini dindar olarak tanımlayan kesimince rağbet görüp uygulama safhasına konuyorsa zikri geçen İslam toplumundaki insanların nebevî çizgiden ne kadar uzak olduğunu anlamak zor olmasa gerek. Hal böyle olunca biz ilim adamlarına düşen görev insanlarımızı girmiş oldukları bu yanlış rotadan kurtarmaya çalışmak, onların nebevî çizgiye gelmelerine gücümüz yettiği kadar yardımcı olmaktır. Bu bağlamda, bir İslam tarihçisi olarak çalışmamızda Hz. Peygamber dönemi eğlence hayatını cahiliye dönemi ile de bağlantılı bir şekilde İslam tarihinin ana kaynaklarına müracaat etmek suretiyle tespit etmeyi amaçlamaktayız. Böylelikle Hz. Peygamber döneminde eğlence hayatı ile ilgili yapılanlar, onun eğlence adı altında tasvip edip etmediği hususlar ve eğlenme noktasında tavsiye ettiği şeyler tarihî süreç bağlamında en sağlıklı bir şekilde günümüz insanının istifadesine sunulmuş olacaktır.

Entertainment and relaxing need is one of the most important needs of human nature. Because, entertainment and relaxing activities are important for achieving satisfaction both physically and spiritually. When these needs are not satisfied, people feel inadequate and make them indisposed. In this context, Prophet Muhammad ( pbuh ), who is one of the most skillful person in terms of analysing human psychology, did not ignore the need of entertainment and relaxing which has an important place people’s flesh and spirit world, approved the entertainment and relaxing within Islamic boundaries. However, today’s Muslims are unaware of the boundaries of the prophets’ approve and they go and return between excess and tephrite. While some of them are going to the peak of the sin and aberration, some are turning the wedding into a funeral assuming that they are the most religionist unaware of entertainment in Islamic border. If in an Islam society the number of louts who open fire to the air during the wedding out of the blue, and its victims are rising, lots of programmes can be broadcasted that invite all kinds of immorality and cultural corruption and these programmes can have places in ratings tops, swearing and hostility cannot be prevented in the stadiums, being created nonsense as if Islamic entertainment by whom are not subject to speak in terms of religion, and these understandings find approval and reapplied by people who call themselves as religionist, it is not difficult to understand that people in Islamic society is too far away from Prophet ( pbuh ) line. In such cases, the duty of us as scientists to rescue people from this wrong rotate and help them to come Prophet ( pbuh ) line as much as we afford. In this context, as being an Islamic historian, we aim to determine the Prophet Muhammad ( pbuh ) period entertainment life in connection with ignorance period by means of application of main sources. So, the things done about entertainment life in the period of Prophet Muhammad ( pbuh ), the points that were approved and not approved by him and the things that He suggested in terms of entertainment by means of historical process to the profit of todays people.
