Sosyolojinin ve psikolojinin ortak ilgi alanlarından olan kimlik, bireyin sosyal hayattaki görünürlüğünü temsil etmektedir. Kişinin toplumsal hayatta temsili meselesi; siyasi alandaki varlığı ve duruşu da içine aldığından kimlik kavramının siyasi politikalar ve tartışmalarla da sıkı bir bağı bulunduğu şüphesizdir. Kimliğin sosyal ve özellikle siyasal teori zemininde sorunsallaştırılmasıyla beraber son dönemin temel siyaset tarzına dönüşen kimlik politikaları, toplumsal yaşamı baştan aşağı etkileyen bir eylem olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu bağlamıyla, siyasal zeminde etkinliği iyiden iyiye artan kimlik, gerek yerel gerekse küresel düzeyde eskisinden daha aktif bir ifade aracına dönüşmüştür. Globalleşme diye özetlenen çığır, toplumsal ve siyasal kimliklerin kayganlaşmasını, çoğullaşmasını, melezleşmesini beraberinde getirmekte; bir yandan milletler çağının sona erdiği yönündeki tartışmalar sürüp giderken öte yandan yerel nitelikli etkinlikler ivme kazanmaya devam etmektedir. Bu karmaşa; din, etniklik, toplumsal cinsiyet gibi ikircikli meselelerin de kimlik tartışmaları içine eklemlenmesine ve kimliğin yeni ifade alanları bulmasına zemin hazırlamaktadır. Bu makalede, söz konusu karambolde insanlara tözsel kimlikler sunduğu söylenen ‘milliyetçi kimlik’ yeniden tartışmaya açılmıştır. Bu amaçla ilk olarak “millet” ve “milliyetçilik” kavramlarının tanımı ve kapsamı ele alınmıştır. Ardından, yanına dini alarak insanlara tutunum sağlamayı hedefleyen milliyetçi kimliğin Osmanlı’dan başlayarak ülkemizdeki serüveni izlenmiş ve son olarak “dinsel milliyetçi kimliğin” tarihsel durakları irdelenerek kimlik tartışmalarına yeni bir katkı sağlanmaya çalışılmıştır.

Identity, which is common interest of sociology and psychology, represents visibility of the person in social life. Because the matter of representation of person in societal life include existence and stance in political sphere; it is certain that concept of identity has a tight relation with political policies and arguments. With the problematisation of identity in social and especially political theoric level; identity policies, which has become a fundamental politics manner, confront as an act affecting societal life thoroughly. In this sense; identity, whose forcefulness increases completely, has transformed to a much more active means of expression than before in both local and global level. The era outlined as globalism bring about getting slippery, multiplexing and miscegenation of social and political identities; on the one hand arguments to the age of nations has come to an end goes on, on the other hand local qualified identities continue to gain speed. This confusion makes it possible for ambivalent matters such as religion, ethnicity, gender to articulate in the discussions of identity and for identity to find new means of expression. In this paper, ‘national identity’ that is said to present substantial identity to people in aforesaid confusion has been brought into question once again. For this purpose, firstly definitions of “nation” and “nationalism” are handled. After that, adventure of national identity in our country starting from Ottoman which aims at presenting coherence to people via taking along religion is pursued. Finally, historical durations of “religious national identity” is addressed and hence a new contribution to the discussion of identity is endeavored.
