Jokes having the humor and entertainment factor have a great importance especially for the students attending primary and secondary schools. Jokes make children not only think but also laugh, and this affects the children’s thinking skills to a large extent. The protagonist’s attitude towards any problem, trial different ways for the solution of the problem and extraordinary perspectives create a good model for the students who read those jokes in the discovery of different reasons and results. The extraordinary manners and thoughts of the protagonists of the joke will be a model for the students, and their creative thinking skills develop, as well. That’s why, the aim of this study is to examine the Bektashi jokes in terms of creative thinking skills and to detect how these jokes can be used in teaching Turkish. Document review which is one of the qualitative data collection techniques was used for this research study. The data of this research study have been gathered by evaluating the 389 Bektashi jokes which are in the ‘Türk Edebiyatında Bektaşi Fıkraları’ prepared by Yıldırım (1999). “Characteristics of Creative Thinking Skills” developed by Temizkan (2011) was used as an instrument to gather the data for the study. According to the results of the study, “Approaching to the events from different viewpoints unlike other people” (f 81) has been detected as the most ranked characteristic of the creative thinking, and “Getting free from stereotypes, being different and standing out of the known” (f 2) has been found as the least ranked characteristic of the creative thinking. Bektashi jokes have been detected as the rich texts which can be used in in terms of developing creative thinking skills when the other characteristics are considered, too.
