Sevgi, herhangi bir kişi ya da obje karşısında karşılık beklemeksizin ortaya çıkan içsel bir duygudur. Güvenlik, barınma ve beslenme gibi insanın varoluş sebepleri arasındadır. Sevgi olmadan ne birey, ne toplum, ne hayat, ne de insanlık var olabilir. Yaşamak ve paylaşmak sevgiyle öğrenilir. Sevgi, öğrenmek, dokunmak, inanmak ve fedakârlık göstermektir. Çocuk sevgiyle büyür ve gelişir. Bu nedenle öğretmende çocuk sevgisinin gelişmiş olması çok önemlidir. Çocuğun yaşamında etkili olan kişilerden birisi de anne babadan sonra öğretmendir. Çağdaş ve demokratik eğitim, öğretmenlerde çocuk sevgisinin geliştirilmesini gerekli kılmaktadır. Türk eğitim sistemi, akademik ve teknik bilgi ile donanmış sınıf geçmeyi okul başarısı için yeterli kabul etmiştir. Halbuki öğretmenliğin en önemli özelliklerinden biri “çocuk sevgisidir”. Çocuğu sevmeyen, çocuklarla vakit geçirmekten hoşlanmayan birinin öğretmen yeterliliklerine sahip olduğu düşünülemez. Bu çalışmanın amacı, öğretmenlerin çocuk sevgisini betimlemek, çocuk sevgisi ile demografik değişkenler arasında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olup olmadığını saptamaktır. Çalışmada ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Tarama deseni; bir evren içinde seçilen bir örneklem üzerinde yapılan çalışmalar yoluyla evren genelindeki eğilim, tutum veya görüşlerin nicel veya nümerik olarak betimlenmesini sağlar (Creswell, 2013:155). Araştırmanın veri kaynağını 2012-2013 öğretim yılında, Sivas merkez ilçede görev yapan farklı branşlardan 564 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Veriler “Barnett-Çocuk Sevme Ölçeği” ve “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 17.00 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmenlerin cinsiyeti ve branşı ile çocuk sevgisi arasında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olduğu görülmüştür. Öğretmenlerin yaşı, medeni durumu, çocuk sayısı ve mesleki deneyimi ile çocuk sevgisi puanları arasında ise anlamlı bir ilişki bulunamamıştır.

Love is an innate emotion directed towards someone or something with no expectations in return. It is among the existential reasons of human beings such as safety, shelter and food. Without love, neither the society and life nor the humanity can ever exist. Only through love one can learn how to live and how to share. Love is learning, touching, believing and making self-sacrifice. Children grow and develop with love. Therefore, it is of great importance that teachers have a developed sense of affection towards children. One of the influential persons in a child’s life is his/her teacher. Contemporary and democratic education necessitates that the love and affection for children need to be fostered in teachers. Turkish education system considers academic and technical knowledge enough for school success and passing the class. Yet, one of the very basic characteristics of being a teacher necessitates “affection for children”. The ones who don’t like children and spending time with them cannot be considered as an qualified teacher. This study aims at describing teachers’ affection for children and also to put out if there is a meaningful relation with this affection and demographic variables. Survey method was preferred in the study. A survey design provides a quantitative or numeric description of trends, attitudes, or opinions of a population by studying a sample of that population (Creswell, 2013:155). The Data source consists of 564 teachers (in different branches) assigned in Sivas city centre. Data was gathered through “Barnett Liking of Children Scale” and “Personal Information Form”. Data analysis was conducted via SPSS 17.00 package programme. Results show that there is a meaningful relation between the teachers’ sex and branch and their affection for children. No meaningful relation was found between affection for children and teachers’ age, work experience, marital status, and the number of children they have.
