Anaptyxis of /y-/ In Turkey Turkish Dialects

Anaptyxis is defined as a sound which originally does not belong to a word, but occures by a derivation in any part of a word. The reasons for anapyxis are devirse, but mostly they occure by interactionn of sounds and effortlesness of pronunciation. Anaptyxis of initial /y-/ is a typical sound event which occures a lot in Turkish. The examples of prohhesis /y-/, derived mostly in front of the /ı/ and /i/ and rarely the other vocals, can be seen at very first written texts of Turkic: A.T *ī-, īd- ‘to send’ > Kök. yıd- ; ETT yid- (Krş. Krh. īd- (DLT); Yak. īt-); AT *ālppagut ~ ilpagut, Kök. yılpagut ‘brave men”. ‘Anaptyxis of /y-/ in Turkic Languages’, a work by Talat Tekin, shows us that anaptyxis of /y-/ can be seen in latter historical periods of Turkic and modern Turkic dialects. Anaptyxis of /y-/ can be seen in Turkey Turkish dialects also. The first aim of this study is to list these examples. By a prestudy the examples of yiye “owner”, yirinti “cracked”, yiri “huge”, yılgın“mirage”, yacanmak/yecanmak “to be afraid, to hang back”, yuħu “sleep”, yüvez “rowan”, yiz “iz”, yığlamak “to cry”, yēri “barefaced”, yege/yige “riffler”, yendürmek “to lower down”, yaldatmak “to cheat” vb. ve yıbrıħ (Ar.) “kettle”, yırgat (Rum.) laborer, yesir (Ar.) “slave” etc. are determined. The second aim of the study is to sind out the reosans of these derivation. The reasons of anaptyxis -/y-/ can be listed as follows: 1.Shortening of long vowels 2. Sandhi derivation 3. The protection of sound value of initial atonic vocals This study aims to list the examples of anaptyxis /y-/ and to find out its resons the first determinations.
