There are very few studies on the art of prayer beads production in the literature in Turkish History of Art. The prayer beads have merely been a material cultural item related with Islam in history. They have always been used within the belief systems in terms of worshipping. It is claimed that the prayer beads were first used in India in Hinduism belief system. Later on, they became widespread in Asia with Hinduism, and traveled to Europe over Middle East. Prayer beads were used in Christianity by the Catholic and Orthodox members of the church. However, when the term “prayer beads” is mentioned, the first belief system to be remembered is Islam. In this context, the subject “Turkish Prayer Beads” is in a privileged status. When the literature is scanned about Turkish Prayer Beads, it is observed that studies on prayer beads are very few. In this study, general information and assessments will be performed based on the existing studies in the literature. The history of the Turkish Prayer Beads will be dealt with, and the types of materials that are used in prayer beads production, and the techniques in the production of them will be explained.
