Bu çalışma uzun soluklu projenin ilk bulgularını içermektedir. Selçuklu sanat eserlerindeki kadın tasvirleri, Selçuklu kültürünün kadını nasıl algıladığı ve hangi statüde gördüğü bağlamında incelenecektir. Selçuklu kadının konumu dönemin tüm medeniyetlerinden farklıdır. Selçuklu kadının statasü ve kimliği ile ilgili kaynaklardaki anlatıları, maddi kültür ürünü olarak sanat ve mimari eserleri destekler niteliktedir. Selçuklu kültüründe İslamiyet öncesi Türk geleneklerinin de etkisi ile kadının statüsü üst düzeyde olmuştur. Selçuklu kadının bu statüsü İslamiyet’in kabulü sonrası da devam etmiştir. Abbasiler ve öncesinde Emevilerde ise kadının toplum içindeki konumunda İslamiyet öncesi Arap geleneklerinin etkisi devam ettiği görülür.Bu gelenekler İslamiyet’in buyruğu imiş gibi devam ettirilerek yanlış bir tavır izlenmiştir. Emevi ve Abbasi kültüründeki kadın tasvirleri ile Selçuklu sanatındaki kadın tasvirlerinin birbirlerinden farklı oluşu aslında kadının toplum içindeki algılanışının farklılığından ileri gelmektedir. Selçuklu kadın tasvirleri üzerine yapılan sınırlı sayıdaki çalışmada daha çok Selçuklu kadının giyim ve saç özellikleri üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu çalışmada ise Selçuklu Medeniyeti’nde kadının sanat ile ilişkisi, eşleri ile olan ilişkisi, annelik davranışları, savaş alanında yer alışları gibi yazılı kaynaklarda sözü edilen özelliklerinin sanat eserleri aracılığıyla sosyo-kültürel analizi yapılacaktır. Selçuklu kadının statüsü ve rolünün tam olarak anlaşılabilmesi adına dönem Ortaçağ Avrupa karşılaştırması dahil edilmiştir. Selçuklu kadının konumunun İslamiyet’i kabul etmiş diğer kültürlerden nasıl farklı olduğu Selçuklu sanat eserlerindeki kadın tasvirlerinden hareketle değerlendirilecektir.

In this study the first dicoveries of the long term research project will be shared. The depictions of women in the works of Seljuk art will be examined in the context of how the Seljuk culture perceive women and on which status they regard them . The narratives in sources about the identity and status of Seljuk women seem to support the works of art and architecture as a product of material culture.The position of women in Seljuks is different from all contemporary civilizations. With the influence of Pre-islam Turkish traditions, the level of women's status had been high in the culture of the Seljuk. This status of women in the Seljuk also continued after the adoption of Islam. In Abbasids and prior to them; in Umayyads, pre-Islamic Arab traditions has continued its influence on the position of women in society. These traditions were continued as if they were the commandment of Islam and a wrong attitude was followed. The depictions of women in Seljuk art and in Umayyad and Abbasid palaces is different from each other which is due to the fact that the perception of women in society had differences . In the limited number of studies on women's depictions of the Seljuk, Seljuk women's clothing and hair features is more focused. In this essay a socio-cultural analysis will be made about the properties the women's mentioned in written sources like their relationship with art, their relationship with partners, maternal behaviors, the place of them in the field of battle in Seljuk Civilization through works of art. In order to fully understand the role and status of the women of the Seljuk period comparison of Medieval Europe was included. Artworks will be assessed in the context of how different is the position of women in the culture of the Seljuk and other Muslim cultures and what sort of change that it initiated. The works of art which belong to Medieval European culture which were carried descriptions of women will be compared in order to be understood the real status of Seljuk women in the scociety .
